I'm guessing that's British pounds since the video is for Sound On Sound.

And the mix for $699.00?!?! Whoa!! Talk about entering a new market for Euphonix!!! I don't think they have ever offered anything under $2000.00 before, and that includes cables! lol!!

Euphonix has an ad in TapeOp saying the estimated street price of the MC Control is $1499.00 and the MC Mix is $999.00.

yeah that was great if true

but sweetwater has the MC listed for 1499 and the other for 999, thats a BIG difference

i will wait for the dust to settle and see what they really sell for. they look nice though

they look bigger in that clip then on the sweetwater site

I would like to use these with Ableton Live. But it does not support EUcon protocol I believe. Would I still be able to use these controllers to their full potential ???

As far as I know you can switch to HUI mode like you would use a Mackie Controller. The EuCon protocol talks directly to the internals of the host. So on the fly controlling of Plugins with a flick of a button is one of the things you would mis. I hope Ableton will license EuCon when this thing hits the streets.

A good friend (who will remain un-named) stopped by the euphonix both and asked about that. The answer was PC support is coming in a few months.

I was quite unimpressed by it-

It looks cool, but I would never spend that much on a controller as limited as it is....

The performance of eucon for a small number of faders is not THAT much better than MIDI- and if one needs a lot of faders, the economy starts slipping compared to the Mackie stuff.

ymmv

How did you arrive at that conclusion? I thought Ethernet was pretty damn fast..

Fader control is only a small part of what Eucon is all about. its all about the customization. You can setup a pretty unique work flow using the hardware and soft keys. it seems like you didnt watch the demo. It looks amazing!!!

Ethernet is- however, I guess it comes down to whether the expense of the system is worth a relatively modest gain on performance, at least with a reasonable cpu-

yes- one can make a single module work for them, but the ergonomics of non-dedicated transport buttons I found to be distracting. I also found the display on the master modules (at least at NAMM) to be shaky. There are aspects of the product that "seem" good- but I do not think they are a very dramatic leap forward. At least not on par witf their larger (and greatly more expensive controllers)

They are sort of "cool" but they seem to have a more primitive UI compared to the functions available on competing products. And of course having the EUcon server as another background app is not a win in my book.

Compared to what Fairlight did with their new controllers, I think Euphonix is merely trying to make a product for the project studio crowd.

but again- ymmv...

I had a product specialist give me a tour of it....

And I did watch the video-

For me it comes down to ease of use, and how much one wants to own a Euphonix badged item.... I do not really have a burning desire for that (outside a System 5) so I found this to not be a great enhancement which would make my life more creative...

I think what makes this unit, and all Eucon based controllers so far ahead of anything else is the extent of the customization you can do.

Sure, for Pro Tools (since they don't fully support Eucon) it's not as dramatic. But for Nuendo/Cubase users..... literally ANYTHING in the program can be controlled. You can setup presets of what controls what. Things you can't do with any other controller can be done. There are almost no limits.

To me, that is what makes this product so remarkable, especially for the price.

The speed gained by going over ethernet is not that big a deal for me. I have been using a Mackie Control for ages, and response time has never bothered me.

The other aspect I REALLY like is the ability to jump from one program to another. I wonder if they acheiving this on the same computer, of if it switches entire systems (with the use of the Gefen switcher) like the MC?

Anyway.... huge sucess already for Euphonix in my mind. I can't wait to get all 5 pieces.

I can't see anything in this price range that does what this will do for me.... and that is.... control Logic, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools and Apogee Maestro, all with complete customization.

I am a pig in sh!t right about 3 weeks from now.

It'll be interesting to see what Mackie does, if anything. I can't see anyone still buying a MCU anymore in a few months time. Maybe mackie will rewrite and deepen their logic control language to be on the par with Eucon. As far as the computer language goes, it isn't rocket science (that said I never took computer science 101). Competition would be good for all of us.

Does anyone know how good the FCP integration for the MC-Control is?
The jog wheel is the thing that always seems to be the tweakiest with
other controllers.

i've asked this before, and i think its quite a significant thing:

on nuendo or logic, does it support third party plugins, or only those bundled with the (eucon supporting) application?

In the video he demos control of a 3rd party plug-in, for whatever that's worth.

I admit to thinking that the mix unit is very tempting. I don't currently use a controller, but faders would be nice. I'm not sure I totally understand what the MC Control provides that the MC Mix doesn't. I guess more control of what's happening in the DAW via that touch screen and the shuttle wheel. Seems like people in my situation, non-commercial home studios, would probably opt for the Mix due to price.

this may be a dumb question but

my audio pc is not on the internet, nor will it be, however my mac and another pc are thru a router/cable modem via DHCP from the router

that being said if i were to get the mix and control units would i need another router and statically assign an IP to it and to the PC so they were on the same network? do you also then assign static ip's to the units and then plug the units and pc into the router all via cat5? are the NIC ports on these units auto detect/auto sense? do i need to worry about straight pinned ehternet vs crossover pinned ethernet cables at all?

or an easier way to ask this is, how exactly do you set these up with your pc?

thanks
