New Universal Audio Instructional DVDS

What do you all think of these?

Universal Audio | DVD/Instruction | UA Studio Onscreen Volume 1 | Overview

Has anyone had the chance to watch them? I would love a review. I'm thinking about taking the plunge on the Internal Mixing DVDs. I already own MILAR, Shane Wilson's Guide To Mixing, Russ Long's Guide To Nashville Recording, and both volumes of Kenny Gioia's Pro Tools Tips and Tricks. I don't really expect these new DVDs to cover much new ground, but I love watching different professionals' perspectives on things. Plus, I own 2 UAD-1 cards and might learn more how to optimize the use of the plugins.

Just thinking out loud...

Would love a review if you've watched them, though.

Peace,

Rappy

Cool. Thanks for the info. I got an email from UAudio with the NAMM $20 Promo. I thought the DVDs were new, but I guess they've been out for a while.

Thanks,

Rappy

These are new from Universal audio, right? Are they repackaged by UA? Where did you hear them? I was under the impression they just came out.

Sorry , didn't mean to imply that you weren't with the program , I think these are new from UAD, but were out for a while, I've had these for at about 6 months, steinberg officialy made them a while ago, I suppose UAD is licensing it.

I used my $20 to grab the mixing package DVD's. UA usually doesn't try to sell junk, so I was confident in the purchase. I like how it seems to not be focused on a single DAW in particular... but I could be wrong. Either way the topics seemed to be worth watching.

I own these DVD's since 6 months, they are from a German-Top-Mastering Eng. Friedeman Tischmeyer. They are really, really good, but nothing new for professionals!

I realize my earlier error and that these are not really new DVDs. However, I thought I'd follow up on the thread and post a review. I ordered the 2 Internal Mixing DVDs from Universal Audio. I am glad to say that they are very useful and worth the purchase, in my opinion. The videos are very "academic." Lots of explanations of sound theory and fundamentals. Basically stuff that I kind of knew already since my first introduction to pro audio 7 years ago, but the video explains it in a different way. More in depth than lots of books on the subject. It is cool to hear the theory explained and then see it applied in a DAW, with both visual and auditory cues to hammer in the concepts. It made me feel more sure about some mix decisions that I often make. I won't have to second guess myself as much, because I now know there is a solid theoretical explanation for why things should be done a certain way in terms of panning, frequency spectrum, etc. Not to say that you can't break the rules, though. The section about frequency masking was very helpful. It is also kind of nice to get a different perspective from a European engineer. All the other tutorial videos I have are done by Americans. I know from experience working with foreign live sound engineers from all over the world, that engineers from different countries bring a different perspective to music and engineering. Even though a lot of it is universal and crosses language and cultural barriers, there are definite differences. It is refreshing to see that different perspective.

I should warn you that the videos are not exactly entertaining. It felt like work trying to soak in some of the knowledge, but I am fine with that. Also, the videos were filmed in German, with English, French and Spanish voiceovers. The translation is very good, though.

The videos are kind of Nuendo centered, but you can apply most of the concepts to any DAW.

I learned WAY more from these videos than from the Tony Sheppard DVD.

I hope this review was helpful.

Cheers,

Rappy

Anyone know if you can use the vouchers you get with a new card on these videos? Just got a new Mac Pro and had to switch to PCIe card which is arriving tomorrow with $750 voucher, plus the additional $250 crossgrade voucher, plus the $150 promotional voucher. I wasn't sure if these are good towards anything in the store (including videos) or just plugs.

Either way I am going to have some fun tomorrow.

They have in the past. I got a voucher from them before and I had all the plugs at the time and it worked just fine on purchasing their $39.99 DVD.

Those have been out for like a year or more from steinberg everywhere. It amazes me how can UA sell these has if it was the first time round.. If I remember right the guy on the video talks too much and does a lot less. Also I think during the video, at least on steinberg's edition, he uses a lot more waves stuff than UA lol. Steinberg probably was the first one to release those DVDs cause the guy on them used wavelab a lot.

I could be wrong though, if UA ordered a remake of them DVDs now using a lot more UA plugs than waves's..
