I've been using this plugin for quite a while now, and it's great... I'm using it somewhere on all of my mixes.

I might be wrong... Isn't this plugin pretty similar to what the input stage of their CSP does? Does it make sense to buy it if you own CSP?

The lack of true native RTAS support is very interesting, especially coming from URS who have traditionally been very RTAS-friendly... hmmmm...

Still, looks interesting. I don't have CSP so might give this a go!

This plugin shares nothing in common with the Channel Strip Pro's modeling. I use it in conjunction with the Channel Strip Pro, because it gives the crunch and heavier saturation that people felt the CSP was lacking.

It's a much more apparent harmonic distortion generating device.

Looks interesting enough. But what's with these long delays on Windows plug-in releases from URS? The Motor City and Vintage Cinema EQs have been "Coming Soon" for WinXP for many months now. Now I fear the same story may be unfolding for this new Saturation plug-in. As a primarily PC user, this is becoming more than a bit frustrating. Kind of takes the excitement out of new URS product announcements (for me at least).

Come on! It's a cross-platform world and we all live in it!

From the looks of it it's similar to McDSP's AC1, no?

The URS Saturation plug-in currently supports Audio Units and VST for both Mac OSX.
RTAS is currently supported with a VST to RTAS Wrapper only (not included).

High Res 64 bit Floating point "Double Precision" processing
The URS Saturation plug-in Hi Resolution 64-bit floating point "Double Precision" processing for increased clarity and headroom. Why mention this clarity for a plug-in that reduces saturation?
Because, we designed the URS Saturation plug-in to reproduce Analog style saturation not Digital!

They're making PT customers purchase a VST wrapper and they're writing their plugs in floating point as opposed to fixed point. Sounds like they're sending a message and to me and it's not just we need to rush this out for NAMM...

It's a different animal than most of the other "saturation" plugins. Here's how I'd characterize the two:

Tape head: instant fatness
URS Saturation: adds "hair" or pleasant crunchiness to the sound, while reshaping the sound and transients

Both alter the sound, but in distinctly different ways. The Saturation plug definitely does more to the transients, especially depending on which input emulation you use, and can give you more crunch as you crank up the knob.

I wouldn't read too much into it as far as where URS is going. The product page also states to "watch for the RTAS, TDM announcements here". And the M series EQ doesn't even have VST or AU versions yet, so there's no discernible "pattern" to what and how they're releasing their plugs.

Well first I should say that I don't want to blow this out of proportion and you may very well be right, this may mean nothing, but I can't find the link to where it says "watch for the RTAS, TDM announcements here" and the M series EQ says it supports VST and AU right on the product page. Message still seems clear to me

Phoenix is much "cleaner" sounding and more subtle. Saturation is much more obvious and different in the character that it adds to the signal, but in a really good way. I have several of the saturation type plugins, and they all are different in their own way. Here's how I would characterize them in a quick thought way:

Saturation: When you need "hair" on your signal. Can change the character of the sound anywhere from subtle to "is that the same track?"

Tape Head: Instant fatness

Phoenix: Clean, transparent glue/loudness enhancement

Analog Channel: For rounding and compressing signals without sounding compressed

Great on bass

I have been using it (URS Saturation) for a few weeks now and I have used it to great effect on bass guitars and even on a B3 that was a bit too "clean" sounding.

This is not a distortion effect by any means. If you want a bit of grit or "hair" as zboy put it, it works great.

I am using FXpansion's wrapper until the RTAS is done.
