If the four faders on the MC Control work like the ones on the big MC, then I think I could work just fine with four. The big thing for me is to be able to have non-contiguous channels on the four faders. If that's the case and its easy to do, then take my money!

Plus with E-net, dragging this thing into the tracking room to do sessions with the musicians (which I am one of many times) that adds a whole other kewlness to it.

Looks like it will, the wave key is there next to the faders and the touch screen appears to have a setup option for tracks...looks like record arm, solo and mute work the same way too, so it 'should' be great.

I think I'll get the control first and then add a mix later if needed.

From what I can see 'swap' mode may not be there - which is a big thing for me on the 8-fader pack. Although there is a fader 'flip' but I imagine that is like flipping encoders to faders and vice versa.

Is it me or is that scribble strip on the mix displaying mono, stereo AND surround metering? coool...

Yep,

that looks like 5.1 metering on one of the tracks, as well as stereo and mono..........V cool! being ethernet there'll be no lag on the meters or chokes either..........I've ordered mine, just waiting now.......

I must say that after seeing the close up pics, this thing actually looks pretty nice. It's not as elegant as a Fairlight controller or anything, but I think it's quite good for the price point. I might consider one as an adjunct to my analog console.

You have to experience the EuCon protocol in person to realize how ahead of everything it is.

they're gonna sell a billion of these things.

Just my curiosity I guess, but I did go to the Euphonix website again to watch the video ,and yes, as you said above, that MC is pretty incredible.
For $15,000 it should be!
This thread is all about the "Artist" series I believe, and according to Euphonix, the info will be online January 16th. Unless you work for Euphonix or have had actual extensive hands on, how can you be so sure that a $1000 and/or a $2000 device is going to work exactly the same as and be on par with a device costing over $15,000?
How do you know it's a "revolution" when the site still has no definitive info?
How do you know that this Artist Series (budget) gives you the exact same Eucon protocol and features as the $15,000 MC?
Just asking.........

Thanks alot for that. Great design.
Anyone guess or actually "knows" how the interface physically works as a monitor controller, i.e ,what connection from audio interface/converter to the Euphonix?

My guess on the monitor control is that its a digital control over Nuendo's Control Room or other DAW's master volume. There are external monitor controllers that are EuCon enabled but you'd have to check to see which ones.

I am diggin' the idea of using this thing in the tracking room as a tweaked out remote. Just using CAT6 all over the place for headphones and now DAW control is making my cable trunk design much easier!

Can't wait for more info.....

Don't forget talkback!

I think the software does this, in addition to control room volume, etc. Really important for those who want to work completely in the box, so you don't have to buy another box/system to do it.

I would guess that if EuCon is even remotely utilized, that the TB could easily be a soft key. If they would just fix the auto-TB enable to turn off the TB in PLAY, I'd be set. But for some reason, the darn thing will only go off in RECORD. Great one.

following this with great interest. looks damn interesting.

(unreasonable wish, i know, but) it would have rocked even more had they made room for an integrated keyboard and trackball, like its big brother. the keyboard and mouse being in the way is the biggest PITA when it comes to control surface usability and ergonomics of the work surface.

btw, will third party plugins have to be eucon compatible to talk to the euphonix, or does the host take care of this?

Different strokes for different folks.... having used the bigger brother to this unit I really hated the keyboard being where it is/was. I would hate to be a product designer!

There seems to be an awful lot of guessing going on here. It would probably be best to wait until Euphonix puts it up on their website and discloses details on how the monitoring works, etc... It's what, another week?

PC support will come...

They have added 'SoftKets' functionality to the TFT...so its like having 24 SmartSwitches plus 12 hardware SoftKeys!!! Awesome.

I might go MAC for this...

Oh yeah - you can lock faders to the surface...just like hold on a SmartAV or the System5...while still banking through the unlocked faders...booyah!

The 8 pots on the Mix can be run as each channel or single channel 8 knob control for EQ and such...
Application switching...

Nice little risers that I would likely never use lol

800 x 480 pixels display...

Touch one of those encoders and I bet all 8 knobs adjust to cover EQ or DYN or SEND parameters....this thing will DESTROY the godawful Mackie control.

I have been waiting years for this thing!

Thank you Euphonix.

Monitor knob will control StudioMonitorExpress software or Apogee Maestro..damn I'm not keen on SME but if I had an Apogee that would rock.

So far the only thing I'm not seeing is Fader Swap...but I could live without if I have to. Saveable Fader layouts are there.

Studio Monitor Express

"Studio Monitor Express is your own professional monitor matrix running on the host Mac OS X computer.

Studio Monitor Express uses Core Audio outputs to feed your speakers and can handle up to 5.1 surround with a monitor level control on the MC Control surface. Switch between Main and two Alternate control room sources as well as two SLS/Cue speaker/phones outputs (providing you have sufficient hardware outputs).

Apogee's Ensemble, Symphony and Duet range of converters will include full EuCon support and are perfect for feeding speakers from Studio Monitor Express. You can also select external audio inputs such as a DVD fed from external hardware I/O to the speakers.

SME includes an on-screen control panel accessible from Mac OS X System preferences."

I'm excited!

Let's have a moment of silence for the venerable Mackie Control.....................

.
.
.
.

Ah ha, who needs a drink? This thing rocks.

A couple more points:

-will control multiple apps on MULTIPLE CPU's!!!! Holy crap Batman.....
-does stuff like open the plugin GUI upon touching the knob, then closing when letting go. Saweet!
-If you have multiple units, one could be set to PT in one mac, and another could be running Nuendo on another machine. That's off the chart for me.....

OK, now I gotta think about a shmazoo mac..... OY. UAD, POwercore, PCI hell..... no, no, no

This is unbelievable! just the sophisticated "monitor" feature set is astounding, if it delivers as promised.
Eliminates the need for a "high end" separate monitoring system,if I understand correctly.
Anything Apogee, from Ensemble on up is totally compatible.
Can't wait to do a hands on!

Once you have an in depth look at the info, I think you get a better idea of how superior the Eucon protocol is. Using Eucon these controllers really are a mini Icon-D for Eucon supported apps.

Even when limited to HUI or Mackie protocol, I think Euphonix experience leads to a better and more useful results for the end user. I expect there will be quite the buzz around the ol' booth at NAMM. When considering the whole package, including Studio Monitor Express, all the labeled custom soft-key possibilities, following which app is fronted and changing to support it, intelligent plugin support/mapping, I think this is a paradigm shift for the Native DAW.

For pure functionality and getting-it-done, this is a monster upgrade from anything previously available at anywhere near the price.

Wow! For that price - even at twice the price - I'm really impressed.

The monitoring thing has me confused though... I use ProTools and I use a Rosetta 200 for main monitoring. How does it control volume (even if I have to go back to the 192I/O for monitoring)??? Please tell me it's not just taking control of the Master Fader? That's not ideal.

It says it uses Core Audio outputs for the monitoring applet. That means no go on the monitor function for DAE based apps at this point, I'm guessing, other than normal fader control.

On their website, it says it can control 'any' OSX application, as in, "ANY", not just DAWs.

I can just see eBay flooded with thousands of Mackie Controllers next week (including mine!).

I can't see how any other controller can compete with them.

I agree with others that this controller looks extremely nice. The future is here... finally. Even if you mix on an analog desk like me, this baby will be great for getting away from the mouse.

Euphonix!! Nice going guys. I'm impressed. You have managed to grasp the market in a way that Fairlight likely never will. I'll definitely be buying one of these.
