We are still fine tuning things on the bench and look to hit production asap. We have 8 test boards we hand built for this batch and as soon as we get them some solid studio time and we like how she sounds we will start taking orders. Gratefully we have a vast and wonderful array of friends to help us out along the way and encourage us...now if we can all stay healthy...seems 40 is the point we start paying for the 80's! More to come as we move along. Gracias! ![]() Features: Feed-forward auto detect Feed forward design necessary for Full-Auto performance. Thank you for the kind words! We discussed production in our meeting last night and are shooting for Feb. for taking orders. We will be using the current units for testing by various engineers to get some real world objective feedback. We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic support group of friends. Aside from NAMM and our first production run we are also doing lots of consulting and repairs/mods to some cool gear in our shop. We have formed some alliances for future products that we will be able to discuss next month as well. Lets just say that our cup runneth over. This is a very exciting time for the industry with some great new stuff with a little more personality and good sound coming out...the Purple stuff, Shadow Hills and many others. We welcome any feedback and comments... we work to provide what you need! We will be visiting Stuart @ Wire (this is a warning Stu!)next week to do some testing, we are also sending a pair out to NC to Mitch Easter (one of my audio heroes). Thanks again and we will have more soon...& website next week! |

Our website will go up on tuesday of this week right before we head out to NAMM. We will also have a studio report from Stuart Sullivan at Wire Recording. It sounds great! The crazy thing about this whole story is that we decided to start this new company in November 2007! Yup, we have been very busy and working 7 days a week to make this happen....this is a testament to our amazing team and the mad design skills of Kevin Burgin. As always we thank you for the interest and support. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! |

| So do I. That's awesome, I love it when new 500 series gear comes out. Means some will be sold for space and I might just be able to afford it

As far as pricing goes we are looking at just under $1k but we are still getting a firm number on production costs, if anything it will go down of course. In fact I just got the faceplates for the first run this morning so I can get them to our screenprinter today. Needless to say we are doing everything we can locally and so many old and new friends have stepped up to the plate...we are grateful!! Please bear with us the next few days while we are going nuts! We will be getting the website up and hustlin. And again, thanks!! |

You mean firing off machine guns or designing and making gear? If it's both, guess we better be careful about what we say. Maybe you should take Rupert's lead and team up with a mic company. Perhaps Telefunken and their AK 47 and M 16? Just kidding. Looking forward to more info on your gear......please don't shoot me!,,,,,,just kidding........"don't taze me bro!".......just...k......

Should we assume from your picture that a rack is in the works at some point as well? Quote:

Well here is the first look at the final product. Of course we could not have done it alone, we humbly thank the many friends who helped us get here, especially our wives who put up with us through this! We took a pair over to Wire Recording where Stuart Sullivan put them through their paces with some Groupo Fantasma tracks they are currently working on, one a song written by his Royal Purpleness...Prince (or that symbol thing). Groupo is a big outfit with horns and all so they got a real nice workout on some drums, bass, and vocals as well. I will let Stuart give his take here on Gearslutz. We changed the color scheme but may bring back the green if we have a demand. We hope it sounds as good to your ears as it does to ours...this thing is versatile. We will take pre-orders starting tomorrow and start shipping Feb.1st. The first batch are being hand built by us. *****We will be doing a special Gearslutz price which I will post tomorrow.***** This is the first photo of the unit and it was posted here on GS first! For Inquiries please email mikel@burginmcdaniel.com Thank You! We will have specs ect. up asap and the lines on the KNOBS DO GLOW! Made in Texas! |

| Komit
Well i got a chance to play with the Komit for a few hours with the BMcD guys. The format for me was based on a brief trial of a variety of pre recorded sounds---so some had been compressed modestly(2-3 db)already (bass, kick, vocal). The Komit's control layout is a limiter dial on the top, an attack/release constant switch (slow/med/fast) and a compressor knob. i only played with the compressor for this test. The first thing i heard was the it can go from almost no compression to ultra squash. It has the Vari-Mu ratio thing which allows for the extreme range. the sonics kind of follow the compression range in that it wasn't very colored at first, but as you dig in it creates a very distinct and thick tone. for bass, gtr, and bari sax the med att/release setting kept the overall dynamic shape, but added a lower mid tightness that defined it well without adding lots of upper mids. In general the fast and med time constants work great with the slower one not standing out that much (however it did work well for a slower bass part). Once i moved it to the stereo bus the slow response time had meaning to me. I was suprised I liked digging into it to get some of the low mid (i have to say it...neveishness..sorry Kevin) For me the thing i have been chasing for many years with compressors is the the drum sub compressors...this tends to be my acid test (pun intended). I have been trying to free up my old neve 33609 for years now (Smart C2/Dbx 162/165/160/160xt/1178/Tube Techs/Daking/La2a's/API's/distressors are cool but don't do the 33609 thing) and my first try with the Komit show real promise. While I can't say for sure until I've used them over time, the Komits sounded truly amazing in this role. The tightness of the the lower mids is crucial to drums and the other keys it the top end smack. All compressors bring out an upper mid impact/presence when pushed...where that presence sits is the key. i personally am not a fan of really bright upper mid smacks (think dbx or Smart C2) it is the mid smack that i love, the Komit's presence point is lower that all of the comps listed above. maybe even the Neve's. For me this is the key to the Komit's tone. It is dense not small (well if you crush it is shinks, but all comps do), perhaps the new stereo linking approach helps keep it wider. with my limited time using the Komit i only have feelings rather that definite opinions. The things we spoke about improving are maybe splitting the att/rel switch into a seperate switches and expanding the most useful range of the compressor knob. The plus side is mainly the sound of the unit, it really has a thick dense tone when used aggresively , but a very light effect when you just comp it a little. plus the 500 series idea not only fits the "new" standard, but drops into my old api console nicely . I will post more specific thoughts when they come up with a pair I can buy and use daily for a while. stuart wire recording |

How long will this Gearslutz Promo last?Regarding the link function, will there be a link switch on the front or do I need to break the link inside the rack? | |

Due to travel contraints and internet issues, (our hotel internet provider sucks and their network has been down all day...) we have been out of touch. We appreciate Stuarts kind words and we will be doing a bit of fine tuning before we ship. The first 25 units will be hand built and we will offer them to current Gearslutz members for $800 each plus shipping and any applicable taxes. Please send me an email with your name and contact info and the number of compressors you are interested in and next week we will go down the list and start filling orders. We look to ship the first week of February. We are very pleased that the people we saw today at NAMM seemed to be very excited about our new company and the Komit. Also...the website is not up yet due to the aforementioned internet problems. |

| Komit now available for purchase!
Our first 25 boards are currently in the process of being hand-stuffed. They can be pre-purchased now by credit card through the sales email address at our site. The current picture of the unit on our website is NOT the faceplate that they will be shipped with. I assure you we are working diligently to update our site......I'm not at work right now or I would upload a recent picture. Upon contacting us, we can send you the current cut sheet w/complete specs and photo. The units will be ready for shipment next week, minus the surrounding metalwork. It is in the process of being fabricated in CA. and though I do not yet have an exact time-frame on its' completion, but it will be shipped to you as soon as we have it. We really just want to get these in the hands of some end-users and get your feedback. The are completely functional w/out the outside metal, no worries there. We look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and enjoy! -Travis |
