Thread Starter | I've known George Pittaway for a loooong time! He was already mastering the masters in his teens with a strong background in all styles from Jazz, Blues, R&B, Pop, Rock, Punk, Rock-a-Billy and Country. He has an extensive touring backgound, in the studio and as a private instructor. About the Author- http://www.ezrollguitar.com/id7.html I think you'll enjoy his tongue and cheek intoductory demo, but the lessons are all business. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61snQ...com/index.html His new 1 hour and 36 minute instructional DVD is well worth the asking price of $18.95 That's less than 1 lesson anywhere. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or seasoned professional, you'll pick up something worthwhile from these lessons.

Thread Starter | I keep playing this back and man that Rock-A-Billy section is cookin' I'm sure the shredders will get a kick out of it too. It's clear he's trying to make it fun and he's certainly not taking himself too seriously. I hope a few of you will benefit from his effort. |

Thread Starter | Thanks George just sent me a thank you. This community is all about helping each other to improve our music related skills along with the gear that makes it happen. The forum generated response to his DVD has been remarkable. I've asked him to consider posting another sample lesson. It might also be cool to know what amp he was using or more about his signal chain. Anyway, just wanted to express my appreciation and best wishes for a happy, healthy and musical new year. |

Thread Starter | The pre-view indicates that you're training your brain to remember repetitive motions, so my guess is the more you work on each "engine", the more natural it becomes. I do hope we get some progress reports after people work with it for a while. |

What I was doing however was cementing deeper and deeper wrong playing technique. Yet, when I cam to really understand what it´s about, actual progress started occuring. I´m now busy erasing all the bad habits of decades. Something you need enormous concentration and patience for. In fact there is one thing that counts for all kind of arts ( except maybe for literature ) that is truely worth to learn about: It is much less about willing and quantity than it is about detailed knowledge and quality. You can have a total beginner reaching a stunning level in just say 18 months relatively easily, or alternatively someone kreeping along with endless efforts vainly over decades ( as I used to.) So, it is NOT about simply "play!", but about best ressource of didactics and modern know-how on physiology and ergonomy instead. If I may say so. Ruphus

You may always say so... and u know... im so in the quality over quantity camp...it really isnt humourous, nor intellectual anymore. It just is whats needed. but if i may digress for a moment of ur reading time.... technic... is like water...sometimes it evaporates...sometimes it stays in the container.... what u consider technical...another might consider unnecessity...what they consider rhythym...u deem un-technical and un-enchanting. (this is from a micheal hedges fan... of which in all fairness and respect to his technicalitys...was about sound and texture). i have half of ur experience in string manipulation....(15 years).... and what i gather... not only has detail and quality been deminished.....so has quantity. (what post 2005 band could u stake ur house on they could finish a tape session in one go around?). ok 2000? '99? geez...im working with ya....'97? (<smart ass / yes) i could come up with the most efficient/technical way to bridge two chords together...as could YOU.....but does it sound as good as another?. given same string attack(transient). ruphus......they once though hendrix had bad habits...... im just sayin | |

| Randall by all means....acquire material wherever and whenever you can.... hell you'd play things right now i bet i wish i could phathom how u came about ...cover or original material. the one thing im trying to get at is.... if a surgeon hasnt held a scapel in their hands in years....are they still a surgeon....or living textbook? do u want to be a textbook now....or still be the surgeon? PLAY.... learn....most important create.... techique ...style... what have you. what a dvd nor vhs can show u... is the WANT to do so. u may be different....but to another observer..... estaban did NOT bring the gift of guitar lol cheers... im being silly....but in honesty.... and from experience ive never learned more than just "fooling" around with the guitar....without a technical nor theorhetical thought in my mind...than just doing so. bar any dvd vhs nor academic "program". cheers |

Thread Starter | There's a place for everything. I totally get what you're saying about memorable leads. We all know them, we can even hum them when we hear certain songs. The lead to "Maybe I'm Amazed" would be one perfect example. While simple to play, it is also timeless. Some players reach further and challenge themselves even though they may not need that speed on every occasion, it's there in their sonic arsenal. Some players commit themselves to master one style, others reach further to master as many as they can grasp in their lifetime. |

Thread Starter | George tells me that the company building his web page is having a few glitches getting all the data to transfer properly. He has a large readable companion .pdf to go with the lesson plan. I'm sure he'll post the server link as soon as he has it up for download. In the mean time, I hope those of you who have received the DVD are benefitting from the lesson plan. |

Thread Starter | George sent me a new clip recorded to illustrate one of his upcoming lesson updates. This was recorded on his pod using my Ibanez AF105NT Hollowbody. From George "Specs: pod settings: modern class A drive 11:00 bass mid, treble 12:00 Ibanez: treble (bridge) pickup Reverb: Waves New York Plate reverb: compression: Sound Forge Wave hammer guitar dist 2. Weird panning of the guitar track I recorded this to try out some new tricks on the Ibanez to put into upcoming lesson content. The backing track is straight Em-Bm, but I’m liberally using maj 7 figures like d and g. Lots of easy, parallel block position ascending cascades (all using ezroll engine 3on3). I’m also using lots of Left hand pinkie to pluck the strings which is pretty easy and creates additional “overhang” of notes and texture. Even the lowly Pod responds well to this but I’m not sure why. I have a theory-the pinkie plucks are a different tone color and therefore stand out because the amp (or in this case, the pod) circuits are not overloaded with similar tonal information. " |

Thread Starter | The tongue in cheekness of the site fits George's personality perfectly. I've always kidded him that for such an amazing player, he's always seemed to get by on mutt guitars and less than ideal gear. Put someone like him in a real studio with all the right gear and the results would be stellar. He's been approached to Go Big, so to speak, but resists in order to maintain control of his rights. |

Thread Starter | I'm hoping to hear great things out of George since he's now working with the original drummer for the Hellecasters. I'm such a complete hack on guitar and wish I could afford to just let him keep my Ibanez, but I love that guitar. |

Thread Starter | 4 Out Of 5 Doctors Reunion Show @ Jammin' Java I just received an e-mail from George. After 17 years, 4 Out Of 5 Doctors will be doing a reunion show at Jammin' Java in Vienna VA Sunday 7:00 P.M. July 20th. Those local to the Washington D.C. metro area should try to catch the show. The club only seats about 200, so tickets are going to go fast. See you there! |

Thread Starter | It was a great show, especially when you consider the group only had one week for rehearsal after not playing together for 17 years. The Washington Post gave the sold out show a great review as well. washingtonpost.com A few clips of the show are up on youtube, but the best part is that the Doctors have put together a re-mastered double CD titled "Reconstruction" The sound is fantastic and I hope they decide to make it available on iTunes soon. The first album of the set was produced by Alan Winstanley and the 2nd by Jeff Glixman ![]() YouTube - Breaking Rocks - 4 Out of 5 Doctors YouTube - Jeff Jeff 2 - 4 Out of 5 Doctors YouTube - Waiting for Roxanne - 4 Out of 5 Doctors YouTube - 4 Out Of 5 Doctors Jeff -Mr. Cool Shoes Acoustic |
