PSP Audioware releases Xenon (mastering limiter)

PSP Xenon is a full band, dual-stage limiter plug-in (AudioUnit, VST and RTAS for MacOSX UniversalBinary; VST and RTAS for PC) featuring an integrated Leveller, advanced K-System metering and psychoacoustically optimized wordlength reduction. PSP Xenon offers 64-bit precision processing throughout its entire signal path, and can operate at sample rates up to 192kHz.
Once you experience for yourself the pristine, transparent response and intuitive design of this plug-in, we believe it will become your "go to" limiter for mastering and other critical audio applications.

Let the testing begin

I've been waiting for them to do this. Where's the old customer discount though?

It didn't appear to discount anything for me when I did this and I have most of their stuff.

you need to add it to your cart first. the discount is a very good one, although i really don't need another limiter so i won't be getting this just now

don't think i need another limiter myself but had i seen this first then...

i truly believe there are more than enough compressors and limiters on the market though if this limiter sounds better than TC Electronics brickwall limiter then they should have a winner but anything less than that, there's no point imo

anybody tested?

I have just tested. To me it sounds better than L2, ML4000 and MD3. (The ones I had here)

Looks very interesting, though a shame its iLok only. Hopefully someone will include it in the limiter shootout thread on the mastering forum soon.

I avoided buying any limiter other than Elephant, waiting for this one to come out.
PSP has been doing very well lately--in the direction of MasterComp, Neon HR, and now this limiter. So far, I'm impressed. Of course, better than the limiting on Vintage Warmer 2.

Anyone able to make a comparison with the Sonnox?

Anyone have any insight into the wordlength reduction? I'm about to download the demo myself.

OK, installed and running Xenon now. X sounds brilliant! I can compare it to Vintage warmer in the sense that every preset does something dramatically subtile for the sound. All this improves the sound. This is rather a psycho acoustic then a technical opinion but PSP keep adding shine and magic to the sound.

I have MasterComp alone, which brings the price down to $208.05.

(still kicking myself for not getting in on the PSP/LUG groupbuy )

Better than MD3 (Brickwall Limiter actually), and the Sonnox Limiter IMO. I don't know how, but it seems to have a louder result than the others at the same gain values at the input.

Also seems to simply sound better, and the cpu usage is low (!).

I'll continue digging it and probably purchase it this year.

Good job!

PS: by the way, as an actual owner of the PSP Masterpack I can get it at 159$. Now that's cool!

Wicked!!!

Will demo ASAP, and I am sure I'll have to purchase this thing, I am sure it must be as awesome as the MasterPack I got...

Yes, this is a very nice small company, which doesn't make such a big noise but know how to treat their customers.

I don't exactly know what you mean by low puch, but to my ears it sounds punchier.

I prefer the Sonnox over the Xenon.
Both have similar features (eg. oversampling to show intersample peaks, dither), but the Sonnox has the enhancer mode (similar effect known from the Inflator).
The Input Gain of the Xenon has a higher range (+/-24dB), the Sonnox(+/- 18dB).

Both sounds very transparent. But I found the Sonnox preserves the transients a little bit better then the PSP Xenon (tested with similar settings and a gainreduction about 4dB).

Xenon is a nice tool, would be interesting to compare it with Kjaerhus MPL1 or UAD Precision Limiter. But its (for me) not a replacement for the Sony Oxford Limiter.

Indeed, Sonnox' Enhance function is quite unique. However, in my tests using the Xenon followed by a very light touch of Inflator sounded better to me (and I tried also using just the Enhance function from the Limiter after Xenon, but prefered the "classic" Inflator). However, given the diversity of mixes a ME receives, the Sonnox remains a useful tool, I'll definately keep it in my toolbox, but Xenon I believe could be my go-to limiter from now on.
