I'm on the fence about getting mine modded, and the fence is digging in hard to my buttocks.

I was under the impression that someone was doing pro-quality A/B's of the modded and stock terror and I was waiting for those to appear. Are they available? If not, if I'm sent a Jule Mod Terror, I will record A/Bs via direct and reamp and some great signal paths and axes.

the little video on his site isn't incredibly well recorded but i think one gets the picture after seeing it. i offered to post some files once but what good would it do without a stock one to compare to?

anyway you'll be ing after you hear what those $100 does. plus jule is a cool dude.

to summarize: more sensitivity, amazing feedback at lower volumes.

Coming

It will not be long now before the samples will be posted here . . . really :-)

Yesterday the wonderful producer/engineer/friend who got me started on this Tiny Terror quest let me hear his before and after Jule Mod samples while I sat between the monitors in his studio.

The kind owner, Gary, of The Amp Shop in Sherman Oaks loaned us an unmodified Tiny Terror for the work. It has not been easy to procure an un-Jule-Modded Tiny Terror.

What my friend has done is scientific, and creative. I'm a tube amp guy. As such I am competent only in environments where things glow (or not). I had no idea of the magnitude of this task in the studio. The samples do exist. The presentation is being finalized.

I fully admit a prejudiced view, but his work on this project is amazing. I am grateful.

Not long now.

Jule

It's not an easy task Jule. Small variations in the playing can make a world of difference. The rest is pretty easy to duplicate (guitar settings, cables, cabinet, mic, mic position, preamps, etc.) but the "human factor" can be big.

The only way to be completely fair would be to record the guitar direct, straight to tape (via a DI), then send that back to the un-modded TT and record its output, then send it to the modded TT and record its output.

(Or split the guitar's signal to each amp simultaneously and be sure that they're otherwise setup identically...)

agreed but i'd just like to add that the differences between a modded and unmodded TT are not subtle. if the same guy plays both, with the same guitar, the differences will be evident to him. the sound of any amp has a lot to do with how you play, and in turn will affect the way you play, so if you record a direct signal and reamp that, you will probably play differently than if you had recorded after going through the amp, so i'm not sure this would be the best way to feature the differences.

in some other post i said the modded TT reminded me of a thoroughbred at the starting gate. i still think that's a good analogy. a rider on a thoroughbred will feel the responsiveness immediately after getting off some half-asleep nag. can't think of a better way to describe the differences.

at any rate bottom line is i went for the mod, i'm very happy and couldn't see 'unmodding' it. again, even in the not so well recorded video on jule's site, one can tell there is a palpable difference in the unmodded vs. modded amp.

we're talking about $100 here guys.

I agree. Unless someone is saying they prefer the un-modded version, just get the damn thing.

I LIKE the stock version. I may PREFER the unmodded version. I probably will. But I have no way of telling (other than that distant and distorted video), and no easy way of getting back to the stock version should I end up preferring it.

Oh RAD! Just in time for my Tiny Terror order. For a hundred bucks, this is a no brainer.

Thanks for the post, Kenny!

A no brainer indeed. Jule is doing lots of these TT mods now. It seems the word is spreading.

Our JPTT is often used in preference to other more esoteric and fancy amps for simple great rock tones. It slides into a dense mix really nicely with very little post work.

For the money you'd just have to say "get one".

Just some constructive criticism here...
I have been waiting for the soundclip of the Jules mod for a while now and I have to say that I am a little disappointed now that I have heard it.
Let me add that I am sure that the mod is great and that it improves the amp's tone immensely - in fact, I am seriously considering sending my TT to Jules, but what good is a soundclip like this when there is all sorts of other processing involved?
A good clip would have featured:
1) the tone of this particular TT before it was modded, for comparison's sake.
2) a recording of the modded TT (with the same exact speaker/mic setup/positioning) minus all external processing - no compression, certainly no reverb or delay and definitely not a Tubescreamer - and usiing at least two different guitars (LP and Strat or Tele).
3) Then maybe a fully processed version with accompanying instruments.

As it stands right now, this clip is useless to folks such as myself who care very much about their tone and are trying to decide if the mod will be worth the expense (even though it is a reasonable price).
