Pedal Port 104 Guitar Pedal interface

Pedal Port 104 is designed as a bridge between the world of effects pedals and the pro mix environment. It promotes creative flow by eliminating the tricks often required to get guitar pedal sounds into a mix. Think of it as a quad "reamp" and quad active DI in the same box. Each channel of Pedal Port has a reamp circuit with phase flip, and a DI circuit with output gain control. The reamp serves as an effect send with proper unbalanced level for effect pedals, and the DI is an effect return to accept pedal output. The rear panel of the Pedal Port has +4dB active balanced XLR ins/outs. Designed with quality Burr-Brown and THAT components.

I hired my studio tech to make it for me and he's going to make up a few extras just to see if they sell. It will be at or under $499 i'm guessing. It was going to be a lot for one unit but a lot of my friends were really excited about it saw there was a potential market for these. Anybody have any ideas on it before we start making them up?

It would be cool if it had a slant top you could put the pedals on.

The unit is still in beta right now so we won't be taking any orders for a bit. You shouldn't need stereo returns since there are 4 channels and you could allocate 1 send and 2 returns. Glad to see there's some interest in the unit. We are also toying with some different design aesthetics still. I'm thinking blue and black on aluminum with a blue power indicator light. I was also curious about making it look like a marshall faceplate.

count me in. PM me with details & availability... Would be good to see an input gain to the pedal as well as output. Always had the idea of a dual pot that decreased the gain to the pedal at the same time increasing the output to maintain a consistent level.

I was thinking about that too but most pedals that are input level sensitive are going to usually be distortion/fuzz or compression pedals which will almost always have parameters on their own. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've just got a lot of old pedals that very sensitive to input levels with not a lot of control on them, also all the envelope filter type pedals require level tweaking in the way in. At the moment I'm using a reamp box seeInsert thingy
and the level on that gets a bit of a workout. Great to see someone else thinking the same.

Getting closer. Testing the beta unit and it's working great, dead quiet. There are two versions in the works now. A 4 channel rackmount and a 2 channel tabletop. We may add a few extra features to the rack 4 channel version.

Getting close. The unit is very clean, we lowered the output impedance on the pedal send to reduce capacitance losses in the cable. I put up a mult and matched levels and I have a really hard time hearing a difference. The prototype only has the send level adjustment and internally you can tweak the return level. I'm wanting to keep the unit affordable by not putting too much stuff on it. Would everybody want both send and return for a few extra bucks? Also, would everybody rather have a cheaper two channel tabletop version or a 4 channel rackmount?

would love to have send and return level, personally I'd go for a 4 channel rack unit but a tabletop version wouldn't be the end of the world, would go with the rest of my pedal I suppose. looking forward to it.

Any updates yet?

I'd definitely be down for a 4x rack version. I'd prefer both send & return level controls. Maybe both on a stacked pot so the front layout remains unchanged.

+1 on both the rackmount idea, and the stacked pots.

I could definatly use one of these

Bump!!

Any news on this, jbuntz? I'm getting ready to plunk down for a few Radial boxes, but this rackmount idea would work so much better for me. So...?

Well, I just pulled the trigger on an X-Amp to test the waters, so to speak. But with all of the pedals I have, I still want a box like this!
