mLAN driver for WinXP/Vista (32bit)

New mLAN driver for WinXP/Vista (32bit)
The mLAN Driver/mLAN Tools version 1.6.2 enable you to use the mLAN devices such as 01X, i88X, mLAN16E, mLAN16E2, MY16-mLAN and n8/n12 connected to your computer via an IEEE1394 (mLAN) cable. The following items are included in the mLAN Driver/ mLAN Tools:
mLAN Bus Driver
01X Driver
i88X Driver
mLAN16E Driver
MY16-mLAN Driver
n8/n12/mLAN16E2 Driver
mLAN Connection Manager for n8/n12/mLAN16E2
mLAN Auto Connector for 01X/i88X/mLAN16E/MY16-mLAN
mLAN Graphic Patchbay
mLAN Manager

To use mLAN, it is necessary to make a connection between the virtual Audio/MIDI terminals of the mLAN devices and enable synchronization between the mLAN devices. The mLAN connection can be set by using mLAN Auto Connector or mLAN Graphic Patchbay.

When using the n8, n12 or mLAN16E2, mLAN Connection Manager automatically sets the mLAN connection, which can be changed in mLAN Graphic Patchbay.

mLAN Driver/mLAN Tools version 1.6.2 is compatwith the following operating systems:
Windows XP Professional SP2/XP Home Edition SP2/Vista (32bit)

YAY!!!

Thank you!

I've been concerned about future compatibility with my i88x and Windows Vista....

No worries now!!

I've done a little bit of testing with the new driver and my humble setup:

Win XP
i88x (x2)
P4 3.0
2 Gig ram
...and stuff

With this new driver, the lowest i/o latency is reported at ~2ms in Cubase.

I plugged my guitar into the DI input on the i88x. Loaded up a few plugins from the freebie Guitar Suite. Enabled direct monitoring on the channel mixer in Cubase and WOW!!

It seemed the previous driver had no discernible i/o latency (~7ms) , but this new one is even better!

And lower CPU usage too...

Time to get rid of my cue mixer!!

I've got a Toshiba laptop with Vista. Will do some testing with that soon.

I'm excited that it will (probably) work!

Laters,
Pfhuck

PS - How many devices can I chain on the MLAN bus?? Kinda thinking about getting a used 01x now...

Question: i88x + Propellerhead Record = ?

Hey everybody.
so new to the forum that I don't even know how to create my own post yet.
Anyway,
I've had this yamaha i88x a friend sold to me for dirt cheap, but without any cd software etc, so it's spent some time resting in storage past 6 months. Now with the emergence of Propellerheads record I'm interested in powering it up and using it as my analog to digital converter.
So... will the i88x mate with the Propellerheads Record software? Does anyone have any experience with this combination of hardware software setup. Damn, it'd be soo cool if I could make this happen.. as I hear great things about the two mic pre-amps etc.

I'm running a mid-range Samsung R610 with windows Vista 64-bit. Will need to purchase a firewire expansion card 54 to link the rack module to the laptop. What might i expect?

thanx in advance to anyone who can shed light.
Peace, love, music,
mark

Both my i88x's stopped responding to anything at all about eighteen months ago. The firewire/mLAN died in one, then a month later, in the other. Odd, as I use a variety of Firewire drives with my various Macs, and none of them have ever been totalled by the Firewire ports that the i88x's failed on.

Bit of a shame, really, as they had some fairly useable pre's in them.

Can't you still use the pres without using them as interfaces?

Yes, use an insert cable out of "Insert I/O". The tip of the TRS sleeve is the direct preamp output.
