I'm looking forward to Guitar Rig 3. I hope there's a Battery 4 coming soon.

at least the price is coming down. their software certainly wasn't a limiting factor to my creativity... if anything, too many options (if that is possible), so this should just be better and cheaper, no?

I'd rather they fix their buggy f******g software before issuing the next buggy f******g update!

I'm one that doesn't care...I was never able to get a stable rig with NI stuff. So they are banned for life (or a very long time (or until battery XII)).

But I'm always curious about where they are headed.

Native's stuff is awesome. However, I can't help but think that their slowing pace of innovation is proof that what we've got now is really pretty good.

I only wish someone could figure out how to model a tube right!

So much truth there my friend... I think now it's a mater of fine tuning things and working hard to get all these emulations bang on.
UAD are amazing at this, but I'm yet to hear a soft synth that sounds like the real deal.. In saying this there are a lot of very usable soft synths..

Anyone have any feedback about the new Guitar Rig 3 yet? I'm itching to hear...

bugs and knowledge

I agree: I wish that they (NI in particular, but so many do this...) released fewer things, and at a slower pace... just well developed, and TRULY beta tested. It seems that some software never reaches the point of fully operational and bug-free state, before a new vesrion of it is introduced... along with new problems. And the customers become the mass testers... instead of working, we find ourselves de-bugging, re-installing, de-installing, updating, upgrading, re-configuring, on and on.

You know I saw this lecture a while ago, by Neville Brody. He is a designer, and spoke about practice of design, but this applies to music just as well, especially because he actully used music world to illustrate his point. He spoke about Miles Davis, and his trumpet, BB King and his guitar... etc. and he asked us to think about the kind of deep, even intimate connection these great musicians had developed with their instruments... and then he said: do you think it is possible for us to develop that kind of rlationship with our digital tools/media? Well, it does take time for one thing, and seeing the insane pace of development, of everything: from plugins to recording and sequencing software, to operating systems, to hardware... where we are often put in the position to re-learn sometimes basic things... not to mention embracing new work patterns and true innovation... well, given all this, I am not sure if one can truly engage with digital world in the same way Miles Davis used his trumpet.
Of course there are benefits in the digital realm, and possibilities which can not be found elswhere... but... the point of reflection is pretty clear.

Guitar Rig 3

I am really enjoying this, pretty darned impressed so far. Yes, I know modeling amplifiers in general sounds like complete a*ss but this thing doesn't sound that way to me.

Some amps in Guitar Rig 3 bite hard but I'm liking others quite a bit.

Guitar Rig 3 is a Nice improvement over 2 in the distorted sound in my opinion, I hated the distorted sound in 2, but its actually not to bad in 3, I think its quite improved, still not perfect though, and I think digi's 11 is more authentic. But Guitar rig 3 has a few very nice sounds, and lots of cruddy ones. but I am sure with some tweaking, you can get some tones.

Agreed...i have Kontakt 3,as part of the Komplete 5 bundle...but it doesn't work on my pc...the only thing that NI support has to say is "There will be an update soon, which should solve your problems"...

Any comparisons with Amplitube 2 or with Line 6 GearBox/Toneport?

I wasn't able to do a side-by-side comparison, but a big muff into an orange sounded way better in the Gearbox than in GR3, but GR3 I liked more than GR2 in general, and GR2 and Amplitube were about equal in my book, A2 maybe having a bit of an edge.
