i think it's great of anyone who makes free stuff no matter what the platform. it's just a pity it doesn't benefit mac users but it's still generous gesture

Only average sounding Synthedit stuff, not worth the download.

.. Synthmaker, and I used to think exactly like you (was one of the loudest Antress critics some time ago) but lo-and-behold, Antress has changed the sound of these quite dramatically (at least since version 1.0) so if you haven't tried them since the first release then do yourself a favor and try them again. They are actually not bad at all now, at least the "vintage" compressor series (the V*-MR plugins and Modern PainKiller). Some had a pretty screwed up frequency response but it's now been fixed in version 2.45. Unfortunately there are some pretty serious bugs with several of the plugins that makes it impossible to save settings. I hope Antress gets these fixed ASAP.

Cheers!

Pain killer and the 1176 clone can get pretty close to my ua stuff. Been doing some comparisons. Maybe my ears are not as good as some of you guys but a lot of the compressors have a definate cool sound. And I'm not hearing the distortion like some of you talk about.

But!!!!!

All the compressors seem to take an equal 8% of my PD dual core 3.2 ghz machine. This is kind of wack Considering I sat with the GCO-1 yesterday and with a bit of tweaking got even closer to the ua 1176 and La2a. Side by side the were pretty much the same. The only thing I get it to do was the all buttons in mode. 4% cpu usage

Why am I doing this? Selling all my studio stuff and going truly portable. Going to travel the country for a bout a month, to write and reflect. No more UAD stuff. And I was freaking out until these plugs gave me a little hope. But now I can get the same thing from a plug that only uses up 4% of my current machine.

Peace

I was just playing with them...I think they sound pretty cool..The fairchild comp worked better on this Bass in this tune then the UAD version did..

May not be great on everything...But what is? It's just extra tools to try when something isn't working..

I think the Deep Purple has a nice hair to the top end..

The VR-ME (Vari-Mu) and VT-ME (Daking FET) comps are definitely useful. I haven't used the others much but those plugs are definitely worth trying. I have UAD + many other plugins but these comps sound different than all of those. Not better or worse, but just as useful in some circumstances. Thanks Antress!

Just noticed version 2.50 of these plugs are up now: Antress Modern Plugins
