"Elastic Audio" Feature coming to Pro Tools!

Taken from the Digizine Summer 2007

Quote:
Last but not least, I want to give you a sneak peek at something for the future: We’re work-
ing on some major “elastic audio” features for Pro Tools that will revolutionize the ways you
can work with tempo-changing or loop-based audio material directly inside Pro Tools. This
new environment will use super-high-grade time compression/expansion to make sure your
audio quality stays intact; audio snippets will be automatically analyzed without any extra
work on your part, and you can audition elements you might want to try against the ma-
terials in your session while the transport plays, with everything “in the groove,” so work is
totally fluid. These capabilities are not an entirely new concept, but adding them alongside
all the other goodies in Pro Tools is really exciting, and offers even more flexibility for your
creative options. I’m pumped about using this stuff, and I hope you will be too...
That’s all the time I have for now... until next time!

Dave Lebolt
Digidesign general Manager

I'd be pumped if they threw in PDC for the LE range.

<< audio snippets will be automatically analyzed without any extra

terials in your session while the transport plays >>

Trying to understand what he means. Is he saying that we will be able to import a loop while a song is playing and the loop will automatically be in sync regardless of tempo?

I guess, it will be like Live, where you audition loops(tempo matched - most of the time...) from the dropdown menu on the left. Then drag and drop.

I hope this feature comes to PT soon - I cannot wait to get RID of Live. I just cannot stand it...

My very reliable source tells me Elastic Audio is fantastic.

Not only does it warp audio "horizontally" (rhythmically), but also vertically (pitch).

So goodbye Beat Detective....... Goodbye Ottotune!

Another plus for 7.4 is that they have totally redesigned the DAE, and it is super efficient. And the word is, it "sounds better". All the beta-testers agree on this.

Oh, and LE will NEVER have delay compensation.

Is there a release date for 7.4?

Nothing official, but my source said he wouldn't be surprised to see it by the end of this month.

It sounds like an HD only feature to me.
Maybe a couple of less reasons to keep switching between Logic and PT

So let me get this right. They have " totally redesigned the DAE" but opted not to implement PDC into LE.

Please don't tell me that the rationale is Digi want people to go HD cause that is hogwash.
Many LE users will simply never justify let alone afford a rig with the plugs.
Perhaps there is some "reason" that PDC cannot be implemented into LE. Why then don't Digi just say so and let the LE users know where they stand. This is after all the single most requested feature from their users.

Sorry but that still makes no sense.
I doubt that Digi would consider a HD Lite version.
Things are complicated enough for them as it is.

Jaa... Digi has a long history of ripping of other peoples ideas!

And I suppose that all the other DAW's that have come out in the last seven years are all ripoffs of those that came before them?

I just don't get it!

Digi are totally backwards. They know that they are about to release a redesigned DAE yet they go to all the trouble of doing the following exercise.

Digidesign | News | Articles & User Stories | Pro Tools vs. Analog Console Mixing

Why not do it with the new engine....

But then at least they did it.

Hogwash or not, that IS the reason.
Apparently the code for the HD only features is already there in LE, it's simply disabled.

By the way Sonic Nomad, I doubt you'll get any real answers at the DUC.
The beta testers are held by an NDA.
If they're gonna talk about it, it sure won't be on a public forum, let alone the DUC itself.

Reminds me of the old Radium release of PT LE that aloud more track count than the official version.

I wonder if suing there asses would do any good.

Oh but if only they'd be kind enough to "enable" those features.

I would be more interested in the completely new DAE, I still find the current PTMP is very clumsy and once I load more VIs and samples (with plenty of FX plugins) PTMP will run really slow and unresponsive.

However, the rubber audio stuff will be really handy! Editing vocal will be now even more flexible and no need of 3rd party software!

This is like peanut butter and jelly. Time stretch and Pitch correction rolled into one. I hope this is true, and well implemented.
