| Great job Chris (...congats on the new family addition) and Shane, Just finished watching the primary video. Went to the chapters section to check out a couple points. Very nicely organized and accessible. Artwork and camera angles ok also. Could've been fun to get a better audio idea of what it was like when Shane was switching between speaker sets (Mains, NS-10's, Phillips 'Boom Box') but... Nice production. Quite educational. Always fun to see how others accomplish this act of montage we call mixing. Looking forward to the 'commentary' and other specials on the DVD set. thumbsup thumbsup Just thought I'd post a few early comments on an excellent educational tool. Not often we get to sit in on a mix with someone like Shane and get commentary on what, why and how... Cheers.

| Here is my review All that analog gear and no analog mixing...tsk, tsk, tsk. Just kidding, what a toy room. Overall, it was really great. I thought Shane did an outstanding job of talking while mixing, not an easy thing to do. He did a great job of letting you walk around his head and provided his thought processes at each step in the mix. I was amazed, because he talked so long, that he didn't take a break for some water. I appreciated his sub group secret, sorry you are going to have the buy the disks for that one. He had some interesting approaches to EQ that were not conventional but that is a good lesson for using your ears and not sticking to conventional methods. The outboard chain really caught me by surprise and his analog processing on the final mix. I thought that was unique. I am not sure I agreed with the overall processing and thought the song needed a little less compression but hey, he makes a living at this and I am a Monday morning quarterback. He did take some some average sounding tracks and made them into a record that rivals a lot of modern music and that was fun, educational and interesting to watch. Well worth the price of admission and along with the Russ Long video you have quite the education in tracking and mixing. Waiting now for the mastering video. Two other things, the kick was still too loud to my ears and that last vocal fade, I would have requested the vocalist come in and redo it. It did not sound good even faded. I would not have left that in or would have done some technique to get that vocal crack less obvious. The Q&A session was priceless, the engineers cut didn't work so well in my mind. Basically a bunch of people talking about what was just said, hard to follow for me. Diving into the 2nd disk now to hear those files. Absolutely very pleased with the purchase. Minor complaint, the cases don't hold the CDs very well. They were loose when I opened the package and the plastic centers had put a lot of scratches on the CD. This was a concern but it all worked OK. You might try a different packaging company. |

| I always have a hard time with instructional DVD's because my attention-span is shot to hell now days but this DVD held me from the Main Mix to the Conversations. You guys left no stone unturned. Nicely executed.
