Good luck with this, David. Personally I think your idea of concentrating on things other than just mic pres is right on--some of us are more interested in being able to add a couple of flavors of analog eq and compressors in a space saving format than more pres (well at least I am ), and there aren't nearly as many options, especially if you only want each unit to take a single slot.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was thinking when I came up with the concept for this company. Today has been a pretty exciting day as the first prototype showed up. It was very cool holding it in my hands for the first time!

I omitted this, sounds great.

please, no more preamps and surgical or whatever clean and precise EQs, as well as, tape elmulators.
Most of us have them more than necessary.
But, smart de-essers, expanders, bass guitar EQ+comp/limiter, original filters might squeeze some pennies from my wallet
Don't forget that good discounts to selected gearslutz early adopters is part of today's game on opinion making.

Well my goal with my first product is to make a module that is both useful and cost effective. Not everyone will need it but for those who like a very versatile signal path it could be very cool. I am sending the first one to be tested this week. That will tell me where I should go next. Thanks for the interest!

Ok, I will need a few more beta testers towards the middle of August as I get some pre- production modules done. If anyone has any interest please use the information request form on the website here and let me know. Thanks!

OK, In response to the roughly eleventy bajillion e-mails i have gotten this afternoon I should clarify a few things. In order to beta test this module you need to meet a few criteria:

1. You need to have an existing API 500 series rack.
2. You need to have any of the 500 series preamps.
3. You need to have to be able to keep quiet about it for a bit (NDA required, sorry).

That's about it.

Do you mean it has to be a rack actually manufactured by API, or can this be one of the third party racks available for the format?

You need a Preamp for it?
Something passive...a summing box ,EQ ,could be everything.
Damn now I`m curious.

Yep, could be...

Actually I am sending the prototype out this week to a fellow GS to check out. Just to be clear, this product will not revolutionize anything, but I think that it will be very useful in the studio as well as being a great value. Thanks!

Hi all,

I have the prototype unit at my studio right now for testing...complete with hacksawed aluminum front panel. David has asked me to not reveal what the unit does until it's a little closer to hitting the streets, but I can tell you the following. The design work has been done by someone with a name most of us will recognize. The signal path of the unit is very clean and uses very high quality components. The assembly is all being done by hand in the USA. Like David said, the thing isn't going to revolutionize the industry, but it will be a good utility/toolbox kind of module that will bring additional functionality to your rack. How's that for vague? I think the goal is to release it for a very reasonable price...much cheaper than we are accustomed to seeing with 500 modules. David has a number of other really great ideas for future modules that haven't been produced yet by other manufacturers. I think exciting times are ahead of us for the 500 format. Stay tuned.

Brad
