Hmm, maybe I should book that holiday in Wellington...

Sounds like a great product, however, perhaps a four rack unit that is rack mountable with 2 top units and 2 bottom units on their sides would be a little more usefull for the price, since you'd only need the one power supply. That way you could mount two compresors side by side (on their sides) or make you own channel strip with choice of mic pre, eq, and 2 space compressor.

Wow, guess I'm gonna have to get into the 500 form gear. So much is now available compared to a few years ago. New stuff popping up all the time.

I was corrected yesterday on this: this unit is manufactured by Tim @ Buzz audio, but is an Atlas Pro Audio product (c/o Atlas Recording Equipment Co.)

My thoughts exactly about the "channel strip" idea!! The first thing I thought when I saw this, a way to upgrade your dream channel strip one module by one. 4 slots would be perfect for that.

I see the two module idea being real cool too, it's really something that's really well thought for the bedroom recordist which I partly am too.

Nathan, what about carrying A-Designs, API gear as well? Would be cool since now you have this cool new rack to offer!

Sorry, but unfortunately we've been denied by both as dealers. We will however have our own 500 series Class A discrete preamp under the Atlas Pro Audio brand coming out late summer that's going to be feature packed, and it will yield EXTREMELY versatile tones that should cover anything in character that we don't currently carry (I can't talk about the features now, but I think you'll be impressed). There will be bundle discounts with our preamp and the REVOLVER that will make pricing very attractive (and FWIW there are already a list of bundles and their respective discounts for the 500 series products we currently carry on the Revolver page of our website if that's helpful).

if this one is the same as the Revolver in that it is being conceptualized by Nathan, and brought to life by Tim...that's exciting!

Around Sept or so (for the Atlas preamp specifically, the Revolver will be shipping in about 10 days early July)...

But if anyones interesting in being on the 'beta' team a little before that, I'm always available to talk about it...

I see Tim felt the need to edit my link to the A Designs 500HR in this thread. Whats up with that? Hey why didn't you bother to edit the link to the Revolver from the A Designs thread. I think it's interesting, but hey Tim, it's all good!!!

I'm late to the party on this one and 500 stuff in general. Could someone point me to the A-Designs thread mentioned? Searching didn't turn up much... Thanks!

I just felt your link seemed a bit like a side track, and not relevant to this product announcement. The thread regarding the A Designs frame is labelled ""the 500 form just keeps rockin"" and not an official product announcement from A Designs, from what I can see anyhow.

Tim.

Just another opinion (like a$$holes) I thought it is very cool and practical, but have to agree (better power supply or not, but think Brent Averill lunch box) the price is just too high, street or not. It might be another convenient way to package the products you carry, so you can make them available in ones and two's, but just not a real smart way for the consumer to buy.......

It makes sense if it's $300 street

NEW Atlas Revolver Special starting Oct 2007

From now until the end of 2007 if you purchase any one module (single or double wide, doesn't matter) from Atlas Pro Audio (we carry Buzz Audio, Purple Audio, Old School Audio, Great River, Chandler, LaChapell, Roll Music for 500 series) you can get a Revolver rack for the discounted price of $350. Thanks.

EDIT: this is a permanent discount with the purchase of any brand module until further notice.

Looks cool even though there are more "cost effective" solutions in quality 500 series racks, but I can see this being very appealing for the simple fact that it would allow one to exercise some self control.

One of the things stopping me from buying a 500 series rack is I know I'd just want to fill it up once I had it, blank plates would just mock me to max out my credit cards

So I can see this solution as a way to get into some 500 series gear but not add to the gear lust factor to fill out the rack.

I was all set to get an Averill rack (the big one) until I pondered the true cost once it was filled up.....very expensive.

At least this solution gets you in for under $2kish.

I like horizontal 2 slot racks from A-Design
Quality is gorgeous, price point right.
I like possibility to switch on and off 2 channels of anything compared to switching on 10 devices while using one channel preamp.

I dunno... the price seems a bit crazy for a 2 space rack especially when the API 6 spot non-rack is super portable. Either way, good luck to you guys!

Congrates for the new product. I've always wondered why nobody made a double deck (4 unit version) of the A-designs one. Would be great for say the Dramastic and Shadow hills buss comps! thumbsup

my guess is that it's related to the release of the elysia xpressor.

quote from their press release:

"(The nice 2 spaces rack shown in the picture is built by Atlas Pro Audio and comes in very handy for stereo units like this one...)"
