crowley & tripp mercenary ed. coming?

Seems no-one picked up on two, more or less recent, posts by Fletcher, where he mentioned a mic called "el diablo" that Mercenary and C&T seem to be developping.

From what I gathered, it will be a ribbon mic sharing some sonic similarities with a U47FET, probably phantom-powered, and able to withstand the air moving inside a bassdrum.

So, Fletcher, if you are reading this, would you answer some questions regarding this mic?
In particular:
- will this be a regular Crowley&Tripp/Mercenary Ed. item (like the Drawmer compressors) and available through the usual C&T distributors and Mercenary Audio?
- when will it be available?
- can you already give a rough price estimate?

Or just go ahead and tell us everything about it that isn't still a secret .

Thanks in advance.

(Jules, we definitely need a drool smiley)

The "El Diablo" will indeed be able to take the full on blast of a kik drum or Howitzer [not the actual shell, but you could record the firing of the actual shell with one]. The output will be higher than that of a standard ribbon mic, but will not require phantom power.

Yep... it'll be available through all Crowley and Tripp distributors like all Mercenary Edition equipment... and like always, we'll get no royalty or over ride when any other dealer sells one.

We're hoping October... but you can't rush "greatness"... but I think I can speak for everyone when I say we'd like to see them shipping by AES.

The current thought is that it will be about $3,250 ish. It's going to have to be determined how much it's going to cost to make them. The ribbon material is some very new, very "space age" stuff [like going for a patent kind of new "space age" stuff] so the cost of working that material is going to have to be determined on a "real" [as in "non-prototype"] run of production units.

Thanks for answering.
As a little follow-up, since it

, what made you say it wouldn't mind being connected through a phantom-powered TRS patchbay (I'm quoting from memory here, hope I got it right)?

Trying to answer my own question here: "space age" as in "magnetically active but not conductive"?
That would explain why it couldn't fry.
Just guessing...
