The HR Meter looks & seems cool, but I haven't played too much with it yet...
Need that PrefEdit app. I guess…

The Listen just display a Grey/Blue area across my 23" and covers up my session,
and nothing happens to the sound.

Anyway Steve, thanks.
Looking forward to the final release of these, and the Tape Delay...

Using my L2007 always, in the final process,
and TapeHead brings life to any part of the music.

Glad ur in the business. Keep it up. thumbsup

I like the "Listen Plug-In" very much, it's a great idea.
It took me back to the analog age when you was able to listen to the music with more concentrate and with out any interruption caused by seeing it.

Thank you Steve

I installed the bundle and the Listen plug-in is nowhere to be found in my plug-ins list.

10.4.3
PT 7

Was it removed from the bundle by the time I downloaded it, or did something go wrong?

Sure thing, I had to have an image of HR for my blog anyway...

Not the best looking plug-in, in the world I guess

Thanks for the pix. I finally saw it in action myself, I thought its great because it is BIG

i know support for this plugin is "as-it-is", but, if we are allowed to make feature request, could the options to change the RMS, PEAK, Surround "type", etc be made from the plugin instead of via Preference Editors?

another question is, how do we "calibrate" the meters ? My system (PT of coz) is set @ -20dBfs = 0VU, now when i play a -20dBfs 1kHz tone, the meters shows the bars till "-12" and the white "single bar" at "-8"

if its a -12dBfs 1kHz tone, the bars are at "-3" and the white thingie is at "0"

I can't get a screenshot now, i hope u know what i mean..

so what are these meters calibrated to? and how do i calibrate them to -20dBfs = 0 ??

Thanks!! we love freebies!!

ok here's what I meant (pls look at the attached jpg)

when i set my reference calibration tones to -20dBfs, it shows this instead.

so how do i make the meters show -20 instead of -12 ??
Can't seem to tweak that with the preference editor..

Thanks!

The listen plug doesn't cover both my screens, but here's something people on the mac can do that works very well for me.

1) Make an all-black picture file (you can screencapture some black or something). It doesn't have to be large.

2) Put it into an otherwise empty folder (you can name it "black picture").

3) Go to the screen saver pane in System Preferences.

4) Click "Choose Folder" and select your black picture folder.

5) Click Hot Corners and select a corner to Start Screen Saver (pick one you rarely end up in by accident...lower left works for me).

Now when you mouse into that corner, the screen saver starts instantly...except it doesn't show anything but black screen(s). So if you want to free your braincycles to focus on music rather than das blinkenlights, this puts it just a throw of the mouse away. Move the mouse, and the screen comes back. This can also help a performer concentrate if you are tracking in your control room.

The meter kicks arse! Any chance of having an oversampling option a'la TL MasterMeter? Perhaps the oversampling bars drawn between/alongside the normal peak/RMS bars? Would be nice to have one meter to rule them all...

I do this on my laptop, because I use it for live performance and can't have any screen glare. A black screensaver is different from a screen in sleep mode though, it's a slightly different balck.

I forgot to mention: you need to deactivate & reactivate the plugin after changing configurations. But, the "db Max" setting is the one you want to change. Put it to 0 if you want a standard "0dB = full-scale" meter. Otherwise, set it to 20 if you want 20dB between "zero" and full-scale. Also, each channel type (mono, stereo, or 5.1) are independently configurable. So, make sure you edit the right one.

Waaahhhh! I wish I had PT7. I'm on Mix, so 6.4.1 is as far as I can go. Steve's tape delay plug-in won't fit on a Mix chip either. I guess you can't have it all.

ok I think i get it now..

I've set db Max to "0", and when i send a 1khz tone @-20dBfs, it shows "-23" instead of "-20"

because "-23" is the RMS value (the solid green bars), and the "single white indicator" shows "-20", so this indicator shows the peak value, right??

I really like these horizontal meters because they can be set to as big as I want and are easy to read!!

and it'll be really good if we could have the boxes beside the peak lights with numeric indication, and we can choose if they are always updated constantly or just shows the highest peak levels (user choosable with the prefEdit)

Last edited by charleslee; 21st June 2007 at 12:03 PM.. Reason: I finally realise how to read these meters..

I'd love to see numeric readouts added, so I can see the actual values for the peak and RMS levels...

Covering up the screen actually does make me ask myself the most important questions about the mix:

Where am I getting / Am I there yet / Where am I going?
Do I really hear anything that's off and could be fixed?
Does it sound good or just mediocre?

I'd like to think these questions are always at the top of my mind, but a simple plug-in like this one reveals how distracting "watching" the mix can be.

I know I don't watch the meters on my system at home when I'm listening to music!

Listen is the best plug-in I have.

That's why I almost never look at the screen when I'm listening to my mixes.

Hi Steve,

It would be lovely if we could set the meter plugin to work as the bob katz k-system. We just need an option to change the RMS zero value (-20dB, -14dB, -12dB).

Thanks again!
