Korg Zero8 - more than meets the eye

http://www.korg.com/gear/prod_info.a...&category_id=2

When I first saw this, ho-hum... another DJ mixer product - oooh... it has a crossfader, looks like a traditional mixer with a crossfade, reall innovation, right?....

But, when I started looking deeper into it, I realized that it does some pretty unique things. The inputs can be configured for analog input, where the fader and EQ behaves like a traditional EQ section (although the EQ section behavior can be changed from a number of traditional setups to true cut and filters for effect) - but the cool think is that this is a full blown 16x16 firewire interface, and each channel can also be assigned as a "digital / MIDI" device connected to your DAW. this product seems to have been designed for Live, but seems like through MIDI setup it could be a nice front end for any DAW - and you don't even have to be into electronic music to take advantage of these features. When a channel is assigned as a digital / MIDI device, the faders, knobs, switches become triggers fully programmable MIDI controls.

This was a very nice surprise to realize what I had so quickly dismissed before turned out to be quite a unique and innovative piece of gear. Its a nice combo of a traditional analog mixer and full featured contorl surface. I'm glad they keep the mic inputs limited to 2 - after all, I'd never likely use a mixer's mic pres anyways. I'm thinking hard and this just might have to go into my workstation... Its supposed to be out in June?

Yeah, it's looking good... both feature wise and the physical look! When I first saw it (and reported on it on protoolerblog.com) I wanted it. Then I calmed down a bit and asked myself "why?"... well, couldn't come up with a good answer simply because this product really wasn't made for me. But never the less, looks like a nice piece and I'd really like to see it in action.

I've definitely got my eyes on one of these things. Fortunately they are several hundred dollars cheaper here in Japan than they are in the states.

Has anyone bought or used one of these? I am thinking of using this as the front end to my DAW [Logic 8] and as my main mixer as I mix ITB anyway.

1. How are the converters and EQs?

2. Can I select MONO channels to be recorded when using it as an audio interface?

3. Can I send CD/Line connections over Firewire?

It's hard to find info on this bad boy.

Any other info you might want to share. I really have my eye on this one.

BTW, sorry to revive an old thread, I didn't want to start a new one just for a couple questions.
