MDW EQ 5.0 is AAX Native and DSP

For those that were waiting for the Massenburg Design Works EQ to become AAX - the wait is over. Though unfortunately the upgrade is NOT free, the pricing is fair IMO.

MDW Hi-Res Parametric EQ v5 is now available - Avid Audio Forums

Not for RTAS Users!

Paying full price to upgrade from MDW EQ 3 RTAS to MDW 5 AAX Native is completely ridiculous!!!

George/AVID... You just lost a customer!

It's not an upgrade to AAX native, it's an upgrade to AAX DSP. There is no AAX native version yet.

Bob,

For me, the confusion stems from the description "Pro Tools|HD Native or other Pro Tools system running Pro Tools 10 or higher software (AAX Native)".

And with no additional info listed in regards to a future release that is for Native Users Only (AAX Native) just further adds to the confusion.

If this is in fact the case then AVID should mention that a "AAX Native Only" release is in the works.
Don't you think so or am I missing something here?

Hope this makes sense!

P.S.
I also posted this reply over at the DUC directly to George himself, as my emails to MDW in regards to this matter have gone unanswered.

From that Avid post: "version 5 offers new AAX DSP and AAX Native format support".

I don't know if there's a solo AAX native version available for purchase, but there definitely is an AAX native version.

Looks like there's been issues anyway, it's been withdrawn for the time being.

EDIT: although the forum post says withdrawn, it's now available again. And I can't imagine they won't release an AAX only version of it, for a cheaper upgrade price...

MDW is one of the few TDM plugins I own, but if I only owned the Native version, I think I'd struggle to update that at full cost - I'd be more likely to invest in bx_digital or Fabfilter or similar.

I just put myself in others' shoes. Folks who moved from HD TDM to HDX need AAX DSP today. Those of us with native systems won't need AAX native until whenever RTAS support ends. I'd just as soon see developers hold off on AAX native and really get it solid for when we do need to have it.

FWIW, upgraded from Version 2 today. No problems, and I realise how I missed it!

Maybe it's the "new toy" syndrome, but nothing else I have comes close.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was just pointing out that it IS available as a native plugin; you just can't buy it solo (yet). So it will come at some point.

Very nice EQ especially the high end...

I wish they make a VST or an AU versions of it.

I'm not sure what it is, but certainly runs happily on my Native rig ...

See above..Of course there's a native version of the plugin - I'm running it too. I've just not done the upgrade to AAX yet.

I did the upgrade of my TDM version.

Unfortunately I now can't open any old sessions and have my MDW plug ins recognised - they grey out.

I'm on HD10 run natively on Lynx hardware.

Anyone else not seeing their old stuff recognised ?

(And of course the new iLok licence does not support the old TDM version so I can't have both in the plug in folders)

Im a little confused by your post as it answers itself (unless I'm misreading) Per a thread on the DUC the new V5 ilok asset replaces the older one and is NOT compatible with old versions nor TDM so by doing the upgrade older/TDM versions will no longer load and will show-up as gray… people are not happy about this (as you can imagine) you probably can obviously the grayed one to the AAX version but I don't know if the settings will transfer over which would be awful
