protools 10, 9 + 8 backwards compatability

Hello
I've recently started using pro tools 10 at home, upgraded from 9.

at my place of study we use pt 8 and pt 9. I have had problems loading up sessions from 10 into 8 + 9 and I wonder if there is anyway round that. it is most inconvenient!
I tried changing the saving the pt10 file with .ptf on the end but invariably pt10 adds .ptx, and even when i delete the file extension .ptx and i'm left with .ptf, the file won't open. i must've been delusional to think it would in the first place.

another point -

I loaded up a session i'd been working on in pt10. some of the tracks had no audio, and the task manager appears to tell me so.
I manually impotrted all the missing audio tracks and saved. when i closed and reopened i was left with only the tracks i had imported last time around. the audoi tracks originally there were disappeared. Of course I could import them manually again, but there must be something I am doing wrong.

Thanks for your time!

your first query would be solved by reading the manual.

save session copy as - choose 7-9 - done.

You can't just rename the file.

Your second issue - no idea I'm afraid.

On the second issue it sounds like Pro Tools is not saving new audio files to the right folder. And to be honest I don't think I've ever heard that happening or if there's even an option in PT to select where it saves the audio files. So in that case, I'd reinstall PT.

Also, in preferences, make sure you have the box ticked that says "copy files on import" (or something like that- so it automatically copies the files to your audio folder). And after writing that just now, your first problem now makes even less sense if PT knew where to save the new, imported files.

I'm stunned.

I'd uninstall/reinstall PT. Good luck!

Well, it's time to rtm for you! Look
In setup - disk allocation! Pro tools 101 really....

His problem of going between 9 and 10 is nothing to do with the 2nd issue, it's pure user error.

Re the 2nd issue, it's not a record path issue at all. It's either a weird bug or user error.
