HDX on a Quad core mac (2010)

Hi all

Anyone working with Protools, with an HDX card in a 2010 generation Quad Core Mac?
Im really curious as to how well the quad handles everything not HDX card related. How much or little power it has for the native AAX plugs, video etc.
Thanks alot.

Best wishes

Mikkel

A Quad Core Nehalem is just a little bit behind the current 3.4 I7 27" Imac in processing power. Both of these are capable of tons of work on a completely native system even without HDX. So I would think the Quad Core Mac Pro would be fine with HDX.

Should handle video pretty well also, but if that is a concern, you would have the option to use Video Satellite LE, and use a cheap Mac Mini for that.

I've got an 8 core 2.93 Nehalem and HDX with 24gb and it totally rocks - fast as and no issues - much smoother than my old pt9 hd3 system.

Thanks alot you guys. Much appreciated. I´ll go with the quad (well, really wanted the 8 core, but HDX ate up the budget).

Best wishes,

Hi all

So I bought a Quad to go with the HDX card. Couldnt be happier.
Everything works flawlessly (so far....)

I can see why you should go with an 8core or more if going native, but with my HDX card onboard Im safe.
Still able to run a big amount of native plugs, like Altiverbs etc. Dosent take up to much cpu.

Thanks all
