Thread Starter | Avid price increase?
Just checking out a PT system on the Sweetwater site. The HD native + Omni was going for $4500, now it seems to be at $6000! Ouch! |

I bought an HD Native system recently, in a bundle with an Avid HD I/O analog + another 16+HD i/o analog 16 (i already had an HD3 accel PCIe i bought used recently as well) and compared all the prices i could find here in Europe and some in USA as well. I was surprised to see such differences depending on the shops i was asking to ! Some like Thomann.de in Germany had some analog 16 for 3700 euros / more or less 4600 $, inclu VAT , while some other audio pro companies were selling them for the same price but excl VAT (whereas this company has been selling and installing some pro tools for 15 to 20 years now !) ; what makes an important difference ! I ordered my HD Native system + intefaces before Christmas, after i had asked to know about the delivery date precisely and Avid France told us everything was in stock /available quickly and that i would be delivered before end of december 2011 ... I paid everything and for more than a month and a half, i was left without any infos about when it would be delivered, if it had been shipped or what ... All the tests and work i had planned to do (among which comparing my Aurora 16/ AES16e with the HD Native and Avid Hd 's in Logic 9 ) have been delayed but i was thinking that maybe i would buy a third avid HD i/o analog 16 if i prefer their sound over the Aurora 16, once i would have compared them . Also, i was hesitating to buy an HDX card at the same time, knowing it's not possible to buy an HDX card with a pro tools software if you don't buy an interface at the same time and the upgrade to PT HD 10 can be expensive (more than 2000 euros from PT 7 HD to PT 10 HD and you have to surrender the previous license ...) but as i had been waiting for a while to be delivered , i thought it would be better to wait for they get some to deliver quickly . But on wednesday, i got a phone call from the shop i bought my HD Native from (where i worked about 10 years ago ), saying the had sole news from Avid and the prices would increase 10 % in about two weeks, so if i wanted to order soon, i had better order now in short ... And today, i get another phone call and teh guy tells me he got someone from Avid France on the phone today and the prices are increasing on monday ... Is it cool to tell some people they have 15 days to decide whether they want to invest 12000 $ / 9600 euros more (when they just invested at least as much !) in their pro tools system and call them back later and tell them, " ok, you have 3 hours to decide or it will be 1000 euros more from monday ... " I think it's cool from the guy to have warned me about that but not really from Avid that first say you have two weeks to decide and then 3 days after you just have 3 hours left to decide what you have to do ! |
