HA! This does seem like a weird departure from the model they set with 9. I hope there are some major under the hood upgrades we don't know about yet. I guess we'll know soon!

From the Dave Hill/Crane Song thread - the PT10 new DSP has a plug format labeled "AAX".

There is a $700 difference from the PT9 > PT10 upgrade and the PT9HD > PT10HD upgrade! There better be some serious new HD only features for a price jump like that...

This is all getting a little complicated... I miss the days where it was only HD and LE. What now? Pt 10 HD Native, PT 10 HD, Pt 10 Standalone, Pt 10 god knows what...what's happening with the old dsp cards? Maybe a beer or two too much but I don't really get this....

I am perfectly sober, and I'm just as confused as you.

Actually, the opposite is happening. They are converging to one app.

Yep. I'm hoping this is the long awaited fix to RTAS VI problems. Hope so. They've always said it would require a complete rewrite to fix. Hopefully the major VI developers will follow up really soon. I was at a SSL product demonstration a few weeks ago and they alluded that something big was about to happen with PT at AES. So it seems like the developers were not caught off guard like Apple is so famous for doing.

Depending on what they release HW-wise, it would stand to reason that maybe Apple isn't keeping everyone in the dark about their Mac Pro plans either. Either way, I hope it's a 64-bit app now.

Sorry to ask a stupid question.

But is it only HD that's going to 10 or is standard PT going to 10 also?

I've literally just bought PT9...

No one knows for sure yet, but I assume it's going to be one version that has various features (like DSP processing) available depending on your hardware. No HD, no standard, no toolkits. Just hardware doing DSP work (giving access to AAX - formerly TDM - plugins).

Apparently it's free if you've purchased in October.

We've updated a few machines as recently as September.

All versions. See the links to the online shops posted on the previous page.

Damn I need to wake up early tomorrow. What a lousy time they chose...

You will most likely find that AVID will be consolidating their products a little, but a native solution is always required in the market, so I am confident that it will fall into PT10, if not immediately, then shortly after it's release.
