Thread Starter | New Myspace sounds and looks great https://new.myspace.com/silverbrin <----- New Account, check it out for yourselves. Apparently you can only see my account page if you weren't invited. Sorry, that was the entire point!!
I threw a few wavs up and the quality I'm hearing when I stream is better than soundcloud and bandcamp for those curious. GS should start connecting up on here.

I agree, the new site is AWESOME...
I really hope it takes off, I haven't personally found a good music sharing/discovery/networking site that I liked since the old myspace died off a few years back.

Yes. When twitter did nothing with music, a door remained open for myspace to jump back in. I'm sort of glad they did.

Sorry myspace is dead and always sucked... no need to revive that old crap. Soundcloud is superior for artists imo.

So...the new site isn't actually up yet or in beta phase? Just the showcase video that's been around for ages? It does look good in the vid, but I'm waiting to actually use it instead of seeing a heavily edited ux piece.

For instance, when logging into my new account for the first time, it had some, seemingly random, info from my old myspace. Searching for artists on the new space will default to their old info if they don't have an account up yet. I haven't read yet if there will be a mass transition, a total conversion, or what. I don't know legally what they can do.

It is technically a beta as I think only those invited, or who requested to be invited, can sign up right now. But it's open for people to check out. See: https://new.myspace.com/silverbrin |

Thx for the heads up. Happy to see Myspace up there again, excellent for presenting music.
Soundcloud looks way too much like 'music workshop' to me. I don't want listeners to literally see my music as 'tracks', it's music!

This looks surprisingly nice. Both soundcloud and facebook leave something to be desired regarding both finding new music and presenting your own music, so I'd be willing to give this a chance.

I thought the old MySpace sucked and I think the new MySpace sucks too. Convinced a friend to move his stuff over to SoundCloud and glad he did. At least I can listen to music from the site on my iPhone on SundCloud.

There has not been one single good thing to say about myspace so far.
Terrible interface, worthless streaming with terrible bitrate. Horrible page designs. Filled guestbooks with gif animated spam from other artist demanding attention.
All in all... a horrible experience! And after their remake earlier trying to be facebook it was even more broken.
Get fans that actually listens to your stuff on myspace? Good luck with that. All spambots and other artists auto adding stuff to get more so called "friends/fans".

sucks because i HATE facebook and did like myspace - for the fact alone that i used to bag about a chick a month off there (75% of them really hot)...facebook just doesn't have that haha.

I don't see how anyone could have a problem with soundcloud, it's fantastic,
instant feedback, it's not glitzy with pics etc, but hey it's just about the music,
and embedding players to your own site solves this and gives freedom.
having said that- the SC new beta is terrible, why did they f&*k with a good thing?
myspace preview looks ok, no doubt i will give it a shot, but between fb /sc i'm not so sure how relevant it is, or if they will even dent the market again. it looks kind of like pinterest with some more menus..

Soundcloud is a bit of a rip off. I cant believe some other company hasnt stepped in and done a way better job for what is essentially hosting with a music player. I have an account there, I hate it. I hate the popularity contest of you comment on mine and I will comment on yours. Bandcamp is way better - buy why oh why did they choose that 3rd grade name. Puts so many people off.
And heres the thing - shoving your entire catalog on free sites doesnt add to your over all music sales at all. Musicians need to wake up to the fact that posting their entire songs on line thinking it will increase sales and profile is pure fantasy. That agenda has been driven by companies like Soundcloud and many others. It only works for already established/touring bands
And do you know there are Russian sites which use auto rippers. They simply go around taking music off every site they can find and then sell them. Those tunes also find themselves on the usual pirate sites.
Any thief (thats what they are) will always tell you its good for your exposure that your music is illegally downloaded. Rubbish - what is good for my exposure is selling records. People have a relationship with an artist when they buy their music. Give away your music free you dont get that relationship. Why dont software companies give away all their stuff for free - surely they will sell more then because its good exposure to give it away free
Thats my second rant today. No more for today |

Just a couple things things wrong with Soundcloud:
As a consumer:
- search function sucks
- stream function sucks (has ages old stuff in it, no option to disable Mixes, tracks appear twice when they are also in a set)
- SOundcloud doesn't seem to do anything against spam&people buying clicks, likes and comments on their tracks.
As an artist
- No options to personalize your page. Yeah I know it's about the music, but since cover art as we know it is much less important in the digital age, some kind of visual representation is important.
- No tools to built a relationships with your fans
- Bad Soundquality because of the encoder

Got a free artist switch account last night. Tried to remove old tracks to give place to new ones. Can't delete tracks/albums with the new UI. Tried to send or post a bug report about it, each time I tried to do this I was told to log in, over and over.
Me thinks it's not ready for real work yet. I will try again a month from now.
As for SoundCloud, it had such promise. They could have become the next MySpace. However they neglected the social network aspect focusing more on just delivery of audio with some little effort to cross-post to Twitter/Facebook. Such cross-posting is not exactly exciting for either consumers or producers so I think they lost the ball. MySpace might have a chance to resurface after all. I'm also impressed how Bandcamp has evolved.

- Bad Soundquality because of the encoder | And, the most obvious problem with SoundCloud IMO: the entire SoundCloud audience/market is comprised of other musicians. Most of us want to reach the far larger market of non-musicians, most of which have never even heard of SoundCloud.

For what it's worth, new myspace is nothing like old myspace, so I would encourage people to hold off judgement until actually trying this new version.
From what I've seen so far, it looks VERY cool.

If not, it's free. Sign up, get an invite, take ten minutes, upload your logo and a song and see how it feels.
