| That's a great idea. I agree with jayfrigo, there is a ton of stuff that we could all comment on and support.

| FYI -- In the meantime, there are quite a few crossover conversations about post-production film/TV/radio and broadcast production over in the Remote Possibilities... forum.

| thatll be awsome. i work full time in post for fOx. mixing, dubbing, recording, sound desing, dialog editing and we are expanding to video/audio stuff. there is definitly more slutty and expensive gear. ever heard how much a digibeta or D5 is worth? and how compicated those things are and besides, they are pretty hi-fi , where all those cool top 40 songs end up sometimes to get exposure. i think there is a lot to talk about in that realm. not to mention film scores and how painstaking that is and its where the REAL good musicians are! (yes i went there i mean, in a music recording scenario, a pro album takes about what... 3 months to make. one hour of music... for a TV show score,, say desperate hoursewifes/the simpsons... one day! (could be argue that albums more memorable ..about 1 in 100 albums )of course those cats also play for the top producers also and you think is bad if u kinda screw up in a recording session, try a film score session paying $250/hour to each player... so you better be fast at pro tools and thinking how to mic that session. my point being is that post forum has a lot of merit and could helo alot. |

| http://www.jblpro.com/cinema/index.htm These are the most common monitors on the big Hollywood re-recording stages. They sound great for film sound. |

| BTW, the "sluttiest" guy I know (gear wise ) is a scoring/post engineer/mixer. Just to start off, he has 11 - that's right - ELEVEN original M50's and 3-5 (can't remember) M150's, not to mention countless shoeps (sp), Neumann's, etc. His "listening room" (not even his studio) would make most mastering engineers green with envy. So.....I guess post guys would fit right in, don't you think? |

| Me want post forum How many threads do you read here that complain about the lack of money in the industry. Well I fought the battle for 20 years and I just can't afford the big facility no more. So I am trying to make the jump to post and location recording for film. Not as a cop out---I find this field facinating and very slutty! Geez all that new gear to blow my wad on...never ends. But, I sure could use some guidence and advice. The one thing I am finding out is there is a 'hole in the industry.' In the film world sound is the poor cousin, thus there seems to be a demand for audio engineers and the money is way up there. In the music field the market is saturated because of the 'cool' factor and the money is....where is the money? |

But most days, i'm tired of the morning TV broadcasts with 1am calls for 9am live shots. It's hard to do and still maintain a family. Props to those who can handle it. | |

| Another vote here. For a Post forum, and for Nuendo. As to sluttiness: How many tracks in an analog tape recorder did you get, back in the eighties, for somewhat like $10,000? (Hint: look left). Or, how many tracks of HD24 can you get for four tracks of SoundDevices?

| I too vote yes for an audio post forum. Most my work is music for tv spots, but frequently I am asked to do the final mix with dialog for broadcast. I'd like to know what others are doing. Mark Miller |

| Knowing film and video technology has helped me get a lot more work as a sound engineer and usually with a lot better pay per gig than recording bands. |

| Really? Maybe up there; down here post has gotten pretty saturated too, and as a result the money's not what it used to be for a lot of us.

| Great Idea. Especially since, any kind of off color remark or criticism ont he DUC will get yoiu banned. As I've been. And I'm not going to bother registering again. I've tried to help numerous people over there with their problems and questions, and stayed away from ctricizing Digi on their own website. I'd rather help here. |

| i think there should be a place where people could freely talk about post and post products. many music people do an occasional post job and need advice on how to start. many people don't use Pro Tools, so the DUC is mostly useless. this could be a place to discuss sound design plug-ins, mixing plug-ins and surround techniques. also micing and recording techniques for foley, ADR and effects gathering. encoding for DVD's is another thing people have questions about. remember, there is the DUC, the Nuendo Post-Forum, the recording.org Audio Video Film forum and the Yahoo Sound Design group. check those out. if there was one here, i'd check it out. (pascal, glad no one noticed your first post!)

| Jay Frigoletto said: Possible topics: Consoles (Harrison MPC!). Which projector for HD? Should you invest in a DMU? Sync and related toys. New workflows for production in HD. Outboard vs. ITB. LEQ(m). Formats (SR-D, DTS, SDDS etc.). ADR techniques. Foley techniques. Plenty of mix issues. Monitoring - JBL cinema speakers vs. more "hi-fi" music oriented monitors found in some smaller rooms. X-curves and beyond. Large room vs. small room. Reference levels. Remixing for DVD. Restoration. Hard disk vs. tape video playback. Film projection and bi-phase. HD delivery to theaters. Multi-man vs. single man crews. Printmastering machines - will digi ever get it right and knock out the MMRs? I could keep going on and on... There are plenty of topics, and some post engineers around, but GS is more weighted toward music, and I'm not sure there'd be enough people to keep it going. This has come up a couple times before. I'd participate if one were started, but I'm not sure of the viability. Perhaps we should get a Hollywood post industry guest moderator for a month and see how the traffic is? __________________ dr.sound replies: Jay, It's good to see you giving advice again! I just wanted to say that a Post section would be very good thing. I would love to participate and share. On a side note, the DMU is NOT available to purchase, and if your room isn't certified to meet the Dolby spec, Dolby will not Print Master in your room. For nearly 100% of those people reading this that means it's better to mix it at your place and bring it to a place like this: http://www.thedubstage.com/facility.php (just a cheap plug for my place )
