5.1 sound stage around LA

Hey guys, we have a movie in 5.1 that needs to get mixed and we are looking for a good sound stage around LA with a mixer.

Let me know if you know anyone around LA so I can have my boss contact them. Im putting together a list of potential places so he can make the decision. We have to have a place by Sunday and I know there's plenty of people here so please let me know

Thanks!

Hmm. I don't think they have any surround mix rooms in L.A.

You'll have to go to New York.

The reason I asked is budget will play a big roll in mix team and stage. Low budget is a totally different recommendation then higher budget. If it was an unlimited budget, you can book paramounts new stage. Cutting edge and amazing. Marti has an amazing stage in Burbank "The Dub Stage". Lower budget then that, you can try levels audio in Hollywood. The list goes on and on.

There is really no end to it as brandoncross says. Although you may get lucky if someone is slow and you have no budget.

demariai: (apologies for my sarcastic post). If I were in your position, I would probably be biased toward some of the great LA mixers who are generous enough to share their wisdom in this forum. There's enormous talent here.

I know, I can pick up the phone and call lots of places. I asked here because maybe somebody works in a 5.1 place on LA or of course knows somebody. I'd rather call somebody known in here than pick a phone and say: hey, can you mix our film. Film is not low budget at all but Im sure it wont be transformers! My boss was looking at the sound stage at paramount so that gives me the idea of the budget!

I'll second that - 'The Dub Stage' is state-of-the-art, and the guys there will get your mix rocking.
Another great guy from this forum is Joe Milner - his 'Pudget Sound' is a different kind of place, with more relaxed and arty vibe I'd say.
Also, you said you needed a mixer - any freelance mixer from this forum will have their favorite place they work out of - and picking the right guy is probably more important than picking the right stage, so use the PM function of the forum to contact them.

Call way ahead so they can fit you in their schedule. Good luck

You'd be in excellent hands with Marti, you should definitely give him a call.

I'd put in a pitch for myself, but I'm booked up until June.
