No no no, we were nominated for best foreign film with the Swedish film "The hypnotist".

Was "Cloud atlas" thrown out as well?

I couldnt say if any films were "thrown out" but there are some weird cases as to where a film is made, vs where the sound work was done.... Cloud Atlas was an American film (as far as I know) but the sound work was done, I think, in Germany....

AFAIR, Cloud Atlas is a German-US coproduction (in that order). Some friends of mine did CGI in Stuttgart if I remember correctly.

...totally late to the game, but posting anyways because that night was awesome.

Was a huge honor to be able to attend the MPSE Awards (had three films nominated in the Verna Fields Student Filmmaker category). More than anything else, it was absolutely surreal being in a room, looking around, and realizing that tons of people I'm used to seeing in Soundworks videos and the like were only a few feet away. I was a bit surprised about Zero Dark Thirty's lack of nominations...but either way, congratulations to all those recognized and here's hoping for many more similar gatherings of some of the best this industry has to offer in the future .

Frank Kruse was a supervising sound designer, and there was a thread in DUC, where he wrote some "behind the scenes"

Cloud Atlas - congratulations Frank Kruse! - Avid Pro Audio Community

And indeed, Frank lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Regards,
Kuba

PS. A friend of mine, a concept artist also did some work in this movie
