PT10 and standalone apps

Hi Guys,

I'm new to PT10 upgrading this week from 9.

Now I have an issue of working with standalone apps, namely Izotope's spectral repair. How I used to work is to consolidate the area I wish to spec repair, then drag the file from Audio Files folder to the standalone app, do a bit of work on it, save, and then (re)consolidate the file in PT to immediately see the effect. PT10 doesn't want to update the file, well not every time at least - seems a bit random. It actually, upon the consolidate, seems to like to write the new file from memory instead of visiting the cleaned up version so I am stuck with the uncleaned version. Really annoying. Would anyone know how do I flush the memory or rebuild the waveform for single files? I can drag them from browser which sometimes works better, but that is a bit slower and wont work if there is previous edits done to the file. And doesn't work every time either.

Another issue I have are the handles, I don't quite understand how they work. Seem to be they are only written to the length of visible waveform, which kinda makes no sense and partially renders the whole idea of them useless. Can't figure out a setting to change it either - except to use whole file mode but that approach has issues in itself. Currently I have handle lenght set up as 10 sec.

Any ideas/workarounds?

My guess is that Disk Cache would interfere with PT10 recognizing destructive edits outside the app. Regarding handles, not all AS plug-ins use them well.

Good luck.

Regarding loading WAVs that you've saved from Izotope's spectral repair, you could check in PT Prefs, Processing tab, 'Automatically Copy Files on Import'. This will of course create another copy, but PT will then display and play your updated file. This is what I do in PT9 to get PT to play the new file. I think by getting PT to copy on import it creates a new file ID for the new file and then knows which one to play. If you simply drag the file saved from Spectral repair into the time line it still has the same ID, so maybe this is why PT still plays/displays the original.

Regards,

Mark

or, you could simply switch of the disk caching (Playback engine - set to normal). That would be PT9 like but you'd obviously loose the benefits of it.

Im merely editing so switching off the cache might be a workaround. I will have it a go, dont like to reimport as it wastes time.
