| SFX and Movies Workshop
I'm conducting a short workshop, introducing interested students into the world of SFX and Music for Film/Video/Games. I'm thinking of introducing some practical/play element into the presentation though. Inviting audience members up to try and put some sounds together for a clip.
The issue I have though is that I don't know how noisy or controlled the area I'm giving the presentation in is - so I've canned the idea of trying to demonstrate doing foley with volunteers to a video clip. But I am thinking of some toys I can bring, so we can play a game of "what does this make the sound of?" - the usual suspects are coconuts for horses, cellophane for a crackling fire, cornstarch in a bag for snow-footsteps. I'm just wondering if there's anything else that would make people go "aaaaahaaa!" (especially if I play the sound through a simple dynamic mic).
Suggestions highly appreciated, thanks! I'd really like to inspire people to go out and make sounds and write music.
