Get that "vintage sound"

I recently have been trying to figure out a way to truly emulate the vocal sound/recording that was heard mostly in vintage 50's music. (particularly doo-wop/early rock and roll songs). Obviously they didn't record digitally back then, but there has to be a way to achieve a nearly identically tone in this technologically advanced time we are in now. Obviously a big part of the "sound" i'm talking about is huge reverb, but as far as the vocal warmth and tube overdriven dynamics heard on the following tracks.

the Drifters There Goes my Baby - YouTube
Gene Chandler - Duke Of Earl - YouTube
In the Still of the Night-The Five Satins-original song-1956 - YouTube

What type of outboard gear/ plugins/ micing distance and technique do you think would be best to get these sounds now a days. I'm also thinking about buying one of the summit tube pre-amps, perhaps this would be suitable.

thanks.

In this era, recordings were generally accomplished with one microphone, mixed by arranging the various elements in a great sounding room.

I am fairly certain in that era "almost" all vocals and instruments were recorded on ribbon mics. Also everything was tracked live together so no one could make a mistake or else the band would have to start the song all over again.
