Will a Digi Sync I/O switch the rate on a Big Ben?

Hi guys, I have the following set-up and was wondering if I added a Digidesign Sync I/O Blue I've got around to it, could I get the Sync to switch the sample rate etc on my Big Ben connected via word/clock to my Apogee Rosetta 800.
I'm growing tired of climbing under the console to change the session rate, when if I just had the 192 I could change it when I start the session in the Set-Up Menu.
The Big Ben and Rosetta are great boxes, just don't tie in as well with the Protools 7.4 TDM HD system I'm running.

No it won't.
How often do you need to change sampling rate? Just curious.

Well the reply I received from Apogee would suggest it's possible!!
I have the Big Ben and the Rossetta in a rack under the console, and it would be nice if I could set the session rate by the Protools session set up drop down.

The Big Ben can be configured between the Sync I/O and Rosetta 800 to follow the session sample rate, avoid this acrobatic and without affecting the resolution. Take the Word Clock out of the Sync I/O to the WC in of the Big Ben, WC out the Rosetta 800.

Yes, if you slave the Big Ben to the SYNC IO, and make the SYNC IO the master clock, of course the Big Ben will change it's sample rate.

The only way to make the hardware change it's sample rate per session automatically is to make an Avid device the clock master.

Well in that case I don't see the point of having big Ben in the chain.

Right. Generally there's no point, unless you need to clock a bunch of other gear with wordclock and can't do it through looping your cables.

Having a SYNC IO and other non-Avid clock device is redundant.

If you work with timecode/video, you must have the SYNC IO. Otherwise, it's mere convenience if you want your sample rate to change with the session, instead of doing it manually. In my estimation, about 80% of SYNC IO's and master clocks I've seen in systems are superfluous. They could just be clocking with the interface directly.
