DNS 1000 workflow

How do Cedar DNS 1000-1500 users use those boxes in a mix? Do you have a bus that goes out thru it that you send various channels to (like from an aux?), and then re-record the output of the Cedar into your time line as a new clip? Since it can't be automated, I don't see how I'd do it otherwise. Do you take pictures of the control panel for times where you have to recreate the settings later in the project?

I rerecord to a track. Pix not necessary. It's pretty simple, so I just adjust each time I use it. Same with my cat 43. Each DX channel has a aux out set to 0 and pre fader. I take the volume down on the clip, throw the dedicated Cedar channel into input and record, and go.

I route my dialogue tracks to a mono aux 'DNS1000' and then depending on the project I either:
1. Route it back to another mono audio track and re-record, mute and move the original clip and replace it with a re-recorded version.
2. Route it to my DX bus which goes straight to the master aux and gets re-recorded 'live' as both a DX stem and part of the full mix.
Like Charles, I don't take photos (I used to, but it's not really worth it) - it takes less time to manually re-adjust the faders rather than find that specific pic on your phone.
Re-recording and moving clips isn't the most elegant way of working but I can live with that until I get a DNS One.

Thanks-- I don't think the "pix and re-record" thing is going to work for me--too many updates to the projects.

When I used to use the DNS1000, I used to place markers where I made changes to the Cedar. I would label them with a short form numerical system. That way, when I went to punch in my stems, I'd always know where to set the faders at.
HML for freq settings , then the first number would be the threshold, 2nd to 7th number would be fader levels. For example
L-30-2-2-0-0-0-2. If I did an update to a scene, I'd just change the marker name accordingly.
When I'd print, I'd just follow the marker list as the record pass went along, punching in if necessary. Worked well at the time, and I didn't have to commit any NR settings during the premix.
....although its been years since I've worked that way now with plugins being the norm. Still love the quality of the dns1000 though. I still think it sounds more transparent than the newer versions....or maybe it's just nostaligia. :-)

I love your marker method! Never thought of that myself. Thanks!
