Experience with HDX?

I'm upgrading my computer and whole hardware system in a month or two from HD3, and luckily, I work for a huge network with rather unlimited funds. Thinking I should upgrade from HD3 to HDX....the whole shebang. May as well. Granted, I mostly do promos and a few network shows, not film-work. Just curious about other's experience with HDX and the process. I have a gazillion plugs from many different manufacturers. Do they all translate well?

Many plugins don't translate well when it comes to the dsp version!
You will have to run manu of them as rtas.
Check the Avid forum for the aax plugin chart and you will see wich plugins that are aax dsp and native for now.
I'll guess that some of the plugs you are using now will never be a aax dsp version!

I am actually selling one HDX card with pt 10 upgrade software to an hd3 upgrade price:-)
Everything is in unopened boxes!
This means that you can sell your hd3 system and earn some on a deal like this!

I love my hdx. Their are a ton of advantages and a few disadvantages. For instance, I finally could ditch me magma! Thank god. I hated that thing. Pt runs faster on hdx. If pt does have a crash, you don't have to reboot the computer anymore, just reboot tools. More voices, more delay comp. lower hardware buffer! I always run at 64 samples.

The bad. I lost my unwrap! Shoot. It's an I replaceable plug in. Not too many dsp plug ins for now. Tons on the horizon tho. All in all I'm very happy with the switch.

Good to know. Thanks, guys. And yeah, I had a Magma for about two seconds. Total POS. Perhaps HDX is the way to go. I write a lot of music, so def need to make sure my spectrasonics and other plugs translate and function properly. Seems the way to go.

Actually if you are working primarily in the native realm with VIs it makes more sense to use a native mixer than a DSP based mixer. Similarly if you use lots of waves plugins that are not going the DSP route.
Going HDX you'll be ferrying back and forth from DSP to native all the time, eating up valuable voices, whereas in a HD Native mixer you'll have full track count.

You just get a HDX 2 in this case. 512 voices
