Are the majority of films surround sound now?

As the topic states. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I graduate and try to move into engineering for film. Is it a priority to learn 5.1 or 7.1?

Sure have. But I've seen some peoples studios that don't have the surround setup so I'm not sure as to what is fact

Yes 5.1 is pretty standard these days.

Yes I will. Thats the plan. Just want to get somewhat of a grip before I get there. There are zero post-production facilities where I am, no surround sound setups and nobody that does foley and adr.
