Problem with Stereo Mix (as recording device) and Audacity

clasam Gear nut Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 79 Thread Starter	Problem with Stereo Mix (as recording device) and Audacity Hey folks, this question is actually for audio editing from Video (using Audacity), and use of "Stereo Mix" from the Control Panel -> Sound menu. Check this link to see what I mean Fixing the Audacity Stereo Mix Issue in Windows 7 - YouTube Had no problem using Stereo Mix to record before back in May of this year, but now no audio is being registered by the Stereo Mix (as evidenced by no green bars lighting up to the right of the Stereo Mix). Audacity 2.02, Windows 7, Realtek HD 6.0.1.6499 driver (8/30/2011) This is what I've done: Stereo Mix Enabled (Realtek HD device working properly) Stereo Mix Default (Non-default mic's green bars still lighting up) Stereo Mix -> Properties-> Listen tab -> Listen to this device box checked, playback through default device. Stereo Mix -> Properties-> Level tab ->Level of Stereo Mix set to 100 Level of Speakers set to 100 Mic & Line in Disabled I also used Skype to double check if Stereo Mix was working as the mic source while music was playing - No response from stereo mix Any ideas? caeks Gear interested Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 13	I had the same problem, but luckily I found a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) male-male TRS jack. If you have one of those, you can just connect the headphone output to the mic input and any sound coming from your computer will be recorded in Audacity. Just play around with the output and input levels in Audacity until there's little hiss noise (in my case, from a crappy Realtek soundcard and cheap connectors) which you can edit out later in the program with noise gate and noise removal. Not very "professional" and "clean", but it will do the job if you just want to record stuff.
