Help! My Win 7 PC stopped seeing my ADVC-100!

I tried to load in some VHS film into Vegas 9 and discovered that my PC is no longer even seeing my Canopus ADVC-100 converter. This unit doesn't require drivers and it seems to be working just fine. I'm running the S-video out from my VCR into the ADVC and out into my firewire port on my PC. Neither Vegas or my Win DVD capture software sees the device! I REALLY NEED TO GET THIS UP AND RUNNING RIGHT AWAY! Can anyone here help me with this?

My Rig:
Nuendo 4.3 | Vegas Pro 9.0 |Windows 7 Pro (SP 1) | Intel i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 Quad Core | 12GB of RAM |RME HDSPe RayDAT | PNY ? 9500GT 1GB PCIe Dual Head DVI Video Card | Xkeys | UAD-1 Platinum | Isotope RX | Melodyne 3.2 | Voxengo Plugins | B4 II | EZ Drummer | Drumagog 4 | Virtual Guitarist 2 | Korg, Roland, Kurzweil Synths | Apogee Big Ben | Panasonic DA-7 desk | Mackie 824 monitors | VS-1680 & 880 HDR's |

Okay, I got it back! It turned out to be the firewire port. It shut down after the last update. The "Smoking Gun" showed up when I noticed that one of my external drives which was a firewire connection had also gone offline. The guys over at the Vegas site told me to restore the drivers to the Legacy setting. That worked. If anybody else runs into this, CHECK YOUR FIREWIRE DRIVERS SETTING.

Well now I've gone full circle.

First I lost a day's work trying to get my ADVC-100 to work. Now that I've got the converter working again the capture app inside Vegas Pro 9 (Sony Capture 6.0) stopped working! It would start then it hung up to the point where I had to shut the entire PC down to get it to clear. I couldn't shut it down with the task manager! It just hung until I re-booted the computer.
Once I got that sorted out, Vegas stopped seeing the converter again!

Sony Capture 6.0 has always been a PITA with the AVDC. That's why I was using WinDV. But as it didn't come back with the converter, all I had was the Sony capture. Can anyone recommend a RELIABLE CAPTURE SOFTWARE that will work with the AVDC 100?

Considering this is a SOUND forum, I sugest you stop talking to yourself. Also look at Premiere Pro CS6.

It's a sound forum, but a postproduction sound forum in fact. Dealing with video is a daily issue in post, so I think this is the best place on GS for him to ask his question. The only other big post-audio forum I know of (DUC) wouldn't be of much help since he's on Vegas (but you never know--worth a try). Maybe also one of the CreativeCow forums, but they are kind of hard to search and navigate.
