Question PMC for TV mixing and/or theatrical editorial - anybody uses them?

My dealer recommended a 5.1 setup with PMC TB2S AII and TLe1s Subwoofer - is anybody using this for TV mixing? I haven't seen the PMCs around here.

We are currently using K&H O300 stereo set and wanted to upgraded. The dealer said it's not good to use O300 as center speaker and suggested this PMC setup. I wonder if this is true. Also I tested PMCs some years ago and they were so detailed it was even a bit too much.

Any of your opinions and experiences are welcome!

I fell in love with PMC speakers and the ATL concept the first time I listened to a 5.0 set of MB2 12 years ago but I wouldn't recommend them for TV or film work. I used to have TB2s as a second pair of nearfields but almost always decided to stick to the O300 or KH120. Especially when mixing dialog I found myself more comfortable and the mixes always translated better to smaller or even bigger speakers when mixed on the O300 (even bigger PMCs like IB2 or MB2).
It obviously only reflects my opinion and it's certainly also a matter of personal taste. My suggestion: Why not keep the O300 as surrounds and go for the O410 as LCR, or buy another O3oo as a Center and two HK120 as surround speakers (you might want to wait a little bit longer till Neumann introduces a successor to the O300 though).

cheers

How big is your mix room? If you have the budget for PMC, why not check out the Meyer sound EXP range. There is a small-ish version called the Acheron Designer.
I have heard great stuff about them, though I have not heard them directly myself.

Advantage Audio in Burbank is using the PMC's with Bryston amps- they sound really good and clients are very happy with them.....

What? Why? Did he say?

I have a stereo set of K+H O300's and see no issue with having one for a center if I decided on a surround set.

Sounds like he is trying to sell you more speakers!

I have not heard PMC's, so I can't comment there. Have heard from people I respect that they are good speakers.

Thanks for the answers. That's what I thought. O300 setup is fine for TV and PMC quite uncommon. I think O410 would be overkill, the room is not very big. I will suggest O300 center /KH 120 surround /KH870 or KH810.

Flix, the answer is yes, one of the majors out in Hollywood are using PMC monitoring speakers. If I remember correctly, they are IB2s.

I'm freelancing at a facility where we are mixing much Viacom content. We're using the IB2 there.

Absolutely amazing speakers.
They are much better than the Geithains that were there before

I'm not sure if I don't like them even better than the B&W 802D I own.

@ OP: I'm just seeing you are in Berlin. If interested, I can hook you up so you can have a listen to the PMC IB2s. PM me if interested.

Thanks kosmokrator, but they are far out of our price range.
