noise levels tv studio and control room

I once in a while work as sound engineer for a broadcast company, most often in the news studio. (Nice job and good to have some contacts outside of the music world). But what bothers me is the noise level in both the studio and the control room. There are screens, beamers and computers everywhere and it seems to increase every half year. Both in the control room and the studio the background noise is 45 dBspl where 25-30 dB should be normal. Is this a global development or should I advise my client to visit studios abroad to compare and work on the acoustics?

My Recordings/Credits

It's very common for sound galleries to be noisy.
Our newer OB trucks are relatively quiet, but not as quiet as a music studio.
Our older trucks, and basically all of the OB trucks I have worked in abroad are very noisy. (Nice exception: the Belgian Videohouse trucks)
Add to that the constant intercom (director, producer, external communication etc.)..
It's just part of the job to be able to cope with that really.
A fixed studio broadcast situation could be made fairly quiet, but in reality, most of them are not.

I worked in a PBS station and all of our computers and noise making equipment were housed in a separate machine room. It can get noisy in a TV control room but it is usually from the people talking or using the intercom and not from equipment. Most TV control rooms in larger markets here in the states have a separate room for the audio mixing console and the director or AD has a volume control and a set of speakers in the main control room. The same goes for most remote trucks. One problem in a lot of remote trucks is the AC is usually set to 56 degrees to keep the equipment working and that means the AC is on all the time. Depending on how the remote truck is set up the audio cubical can be right next to the AC units or on the opposite end of the truck. I think you should advise your client to have a look at what others are doing. FWIW
