nuendo 5.1 templates?

newbie here, anyone know of any good diagrams, explanations, workflows for doing a 5.1 mix specifically in nuendo?

using nuendo currently, familiar with pro tools.

if anyone has a moment to share their thoughts, possibly a nuendo template project I'd be grateful! can't seem to find one anywhere.

What is it that you need to mix? A 5.1 documentary mix will need a very different setup from a film mix. A bit more info would be useful.

good point!

looking for a template for mixing 5.1 narrative feature film projects.

i always found the templates provided in pro tools to be a helpful starting point but dont seem to have the same in nuendo or cubase when it comes to surround....

thanks!

if someone out there's willing to share a nuendo or cubase project template for a 5.1 surround feature film mix with reverb, delay, etc all setup and ready to go please please do!

it would be so incredibly helpful!

I've never understood the thing with wanting others templates...

A template is developed based on personal preference, who you are working with, how it will be mixed and by whom. The type of film will also change the style, layout and complexity of the project layout.

There are good threads on how different mixers set up their projects.. Search and you shall find.

What would you want that template for?

im familiar with pro tools and how to setup different film/tv mixing templates myself but new to nuendo and just thought if somebody had a very basic, clean 5.1 template to learn from that it would be helpful to me, since nuendo's interface is somewhat of a transition when it comes to busses and aux channels, especially with 5.1 mixes.

ive been reading threads, books, tutorials, know how to use most the application but thought a 5.1 template could be a great place to experiment.

i want to know the rules before i break them kind of thing, then i'll build my own templates based off that knowledge.

there are so many nuendo users out there, i figure someone would be ok with sharing something that's worked for them. im aware it isn't the first and last workflow ill ever use.

thanks

I'll gladly send you my templates, but I'm not in the studio until end-August - PM me then if you're still interested. On the other hand, I agree with Erik - you will just see a bunch of nicely colored empty channels routed to empty busses

thanks for the offer danijel, and the suggestion drakem. i'll check out the nuendo forum as well and see if anyone's got any templates they'd like to share.

i have a hard time grasping busses, aux tracks, and setting up stems in nuendo. so thats primarily why im hoping to see how others go about routing their work.

Yes busses are a little different to pt but not to different.

Creating a group is the same as creating a bus and an aux channel in PT. you can mix "to" the group, so theres no need for a specific bus.

You can also route to a output/bus (a bus and an output is the same, but a bus has no physical output assigned to it). This can be used as the source for any regular channel input (as long as the channel widths are the same) mimicking a PT workflow. The drawback is that you have to think more about solo defeats etc. with groups Nuendo will "understand" the signal flow, and solo the needed channels or groups as well.

Om not at home or at the studio for another few weeks either. I'm on holliday sailing ATM.
