SST SoundStorm Sound Effect Library Metadata

This is a shot in the dark, but we have a large sound effects library called SST in our collection that is missing a huge chunk of metadata. The data/excel files that are available on the website at SoundStorm - Hollywood's Sound Effects Library look like they reflect a newly organized version of the library, so it is impossible for me to line up the data and repair the files I need. We obtained this library almost 10 years ago and I am wondering if there is anyone else out there who also has the same version we do, with complete metadata. It is organized in 50 folders, labeled SST01 through SST50. The file names are all alphanumeric (ex. S_403542.wav). I am looking for metadata for folders SST43 through SST50. We are using Soundminer. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Hi,

I was the sound librarian at Sounddogs.com when they first acquired the Soundstorm library.

I was in charge of cleaning up the metadata. I can confirm that the old naming structure ("S_123456.wav") is indeed the former naming scheme before I applied the English names used in the library.

There was actually an Excel database that related the old names to new ones. I used it rename the entire library with an app (Soundminer, at the time, wasn't a good option for renaming filenames).

Rob Nokes (owner of Sounddogs.com) may still have it kicking around. I'd suggest contacting him directly. Tell him you're looking for an "Excel database relating the legacy Soundstorm numbered filenames to the current English names," and that may help you.

Contact Rob Nokes

I believe I also embedded the original filenames in the Soundminer "notes" field for safekeeping, so that's another route you can take as well.

Paul

PS - Email me via jetstreaming.org I can answer any other questions - I check back here only occasionally.
