- list of effects that really handles 5.1 surround diffusion (..and more !)

Hi all

This is my first post on these forums that has been recommended to me by the kvraudio folks on the particular topic (Sean Costello from Walhallasounds among others)

Because i'm highly interested in the built of a list of effects that handle surround diffusion in 5.1 format because i have now an equipment that can handle this particular one

(iMac with i7 intel core processor, DMX6Fire usb Terratec audio interface, Logitech 5.1 speakers system, Logic Pro 9)

this sub forum seems the more appropriate for these question , i apologize if i'm wrong !

As you can see no hi-end technologies for the peculiar purpose, but i might do the job with this...

I'm aware that it is almost impossible to create as home-studist, the appropriate environment to reach movie broadcast criteria
But i will be mainly focused on making surround mix for african/fusion production, with musicians and singers i'm working with part of my time in Bobo-dioulasso/Burkina Faso
Eventually the creation of video clips in the future, but there are no real need for accurate "sound and image" locations, for instance just with some luck and some skills the creation of innovative styles adapted to african modern music

...and soundtakes of traditional bands (i've bought a ZOOM H2 handy recorder that handles quadriphonic soundtakes that could be converted in 5.1)

So about audio and audio instrument plugin i know that absynth, the play engine from easiest and the uhbik series from u-he handle surround format, but i do not know much effects other than for creative purpose (like the uhbiks) that handles 5.1 in AU format

- Any suggestions for appropriate mixing and mastering tools in 5.1 AU ?

- and BTW can you indicate me a soft that might convert the quadriphonic format handled by the zoom h2 handy recorder (front L/R + rear L/R) into 5.1 format ?

- THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!!

not many people here work in au. grm tools do interesting things in 5.0 and I would focus on using the 5.0 effectively and only going to the .1 for a reason.

also your quad set up wont really go to 5.1. You should look at double ms.

Does anyone knows if there is a wrapper (like the VST - AU FXpansion`s one unfortunately discontinued) that might handle 5.1 formats plug-in like the iosono one in a au host like Logic ?

I believe the technical term is confusion, not diffusion ;-) have you tried a surround panner and bleed a little bit to the centre? That would give you 5.0 sort of. Use LowAir or lowender to generate some .1 content.

Hm. still don't understand. Personally, I have never heard of the term "surround diffusion" in film sound.
Can you describe what kind of "device" you are talking about? 5.0 reverb? Or are you talking about diffusors as acoustic elements something like this:

ok, the way i meant :

stereo : 2 channels diffusion systems

surround : 5 to 8 channels (AFAIK) diffusion systems

sound clearer ? ...sorry if i was mistaken in the choice of my vocabulary, (not my mother language)
