Can anyone help me learn how to fully automate DMX controlled lights?

Basically I want to automate the light levels (dim) and strobe effect of a few LED dmx capable lights I have...automate as in program them to do xyz at a certain time for a certain time (just like mixing a song, or what have you) and be able to play back exactly, like programming the lights to follow a song, I hope you get what I mean...sorry, I'm just a complete noob to this world, a walkthrough of what is needed, and what to generally do would be great! I don't think it seems too complicated...

DMX is just a comm protocol - you'll need to get the console manual, program your cues and probably have the board follow midi....
Here's what we know about lighting: truss is made of aluminum so it doesn't rust while the audio crew is waiting for you to get it off the stage deck.
For a more detailed answer, may I suggest a LD forum?
