Syncing edits?

Hello,

I'm sure this is done all the time in the post world but I did an initial search to no avail.

A client has hired me to do some location recording and a separate crew is filming the whole night. The final output will be DVD.

My question is this:

Is there anyway I can map the multitrack recordings in Pro Tools to the edit points the video crew made in Premiere? I've done importing/exporting OMF before but I've never actually "mapped" edit points. As in, the video crew will be editing with only the stereo live mix, when he's done, can I "import" the edit points he's done so my multitrack will sync to the video?

Many thanks!

Jyc

I'm not sure if could use the Pro Tools "expand tracks" by timecode feature using the edit data in an OMF from Premiere. Otherwise I'm sure you could get an audio EDL output from Premiere and apply that to your PT recordings by re-conforming the tracks using something like EdiLoad's PT Re-conform feature.

You can also use EdiLoad to clean the EDL, like remove duplicate events before you do the recon.

Also, but I'm sure you know this one, make sure the camera is running the same TC as PT and both are locked to the same video reference.

Regards,

Mark

Many thanks!! Found my answer after more in depth looking into Pro Tools menu.

I'll probably provide a audio guide track for them to edit, then I could perhaps use the audio guide track to expand my multitracks for mixing.

It seems it could be done, however, they're using Premiere and I'll need to check if the metadata stays intact after some editing.

Fingers' crossed.

I highly doubt it. If premiere can't do referenced OMF/AAF it won't work. But do test it before they shoot. Always the best way to find out.

Just to report, nope, it did not work. Luckily I had embedded a loud click on the right channel while the editor used the left channel to monitor. This made aligning all edit points pretty easy.
