Water sound effects

Having looked in all the usual places I've come across nothing/nothing suitable. Looking for waves crashing against rocks and against small boats at sea, short of recording these myself (if I can convince the director to pay for it and find a suitable location) can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

I would check out Hiss and Roar, Tim Prebble's libraries. There's some good stuff in there.

If you're able to do it yourself, I'd recommend getting the longest boom you can afford. I really like recording waves, and you have to get right over them to get a good recording. Also find a beach and/or time when the period of the waves is long enough so that one wave cycle finishes before the next begins, otherwise you get nothing but white noise.

One last thing: bigger waves do not necessarily equal bigger sounding recordings. As with many sound effects, medium to smaller things often make for more interesting SFX.

hiss and a roar blow holes is awesome. Along with the rabbit ears hydrophone and hiss and roar water foley.

Between all of those you should be covered aside from basic wave crashes.

Hi Tom,

I have some recordings on airbornesound.com. They all have Soundminer metadata included.

All were recorded with the Neumann 191 microphone.

I recorded these Pacific Ocean waves on Vancouver Island during storm season. There's a mix of churning waves from high above, pounding waves against rocks, waves leaping against the cliffs:

I recorded these Atlantic Ocean waves on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. There's some different stuff here, including waves on stone walls, against a rocky shore, and on a boulder beach.

If you prefer browsing, check out the Water/Waves category for sandy beach laps, etc.:

There are 6 pages worth of different ocean sounds to download found here:

Ocean | Rocksure Soundz

I would think you will most likely find something suitable in there for most ocean sound needs.

I working on animated movie, with a fish in aquarium as the side kick.
This fish acts human. It sleeps in a bed, eating, playing chess and answering a phone.

I think that to cut high freqs could hurt the authenticity. I need some ideas how to make this character under water, in aquarium with props, work.

any ideas?

This is a small, ball like aquarium.

thanx
Not really the same as what I'm after, probably best to start a new thread.

Interesting. Can't find anywhere on their page if it's windows only or mac too.
