Thread Starter | Video Clip Length
I don't really know how to ask this question, but here goes: I'm working in depth with video for the first time; what are the typical lengths of the cuts or scenes (don't know the proper term) that are worked on at any given time. I'm finding that I'm creating a very large number of audio tracks to accommodate all of the sounds needed for the cuts I'm receiving. These cuts are on average around 10 min. a piece. Thanks |

you'll have to explain your term "Cuts"... but if you are receiving 10 min sequences from an editor for pre-dubs for a feature, then thats fine. It could take 1 track, or it might take 50 tracks.... it all depends on the amount of dialogue, sound effects, ADR, VO, music, ambience, etc is required. If you are doing pre-dubs the best thing to do is to keep everything under 8 tracks and to make sure you keep things on separate tracks and simple for the editor. A lot of editors, like to grab individual sound sfx, or ambience from one pre-dub and move it around as they re-cut or use the sounds in other editing segments. so the simpler and well laid out the better. If you are doing full mixes for a bunch of 10 minute videos , then do what you have to do. If you are doing rough sound edits for a bunch of 10 minute clips that will , in the end, be a feature film, then you need to layout your session so that you can work in 20 min reels or 1 master session that can, if required, be broken out into 20 min reels. cheers geo
