Thread Starter | 29.97NDF/DF & Pro Tools
Hello, I have a situation that I have never dealt with before and thought I would run it by some more TC-savvy types. What I am doing is recording to an A827 and a PT HD3 rig with TC being 29.97DF from our Lynx. Everything has been fine when we sync the two up. Unfortunately, one day our Lynx got changed to 29.97NDF and we didnt realize this until after the fact. So what happened was that NDF code was being sent to the A827 and a PT session, which was set up for DF. I am now having sync issues (obviously) between the two. I use the A827 as the master and if I leave the PT session in DF mode my PT audio is late by about 10 frames. And If I change the PT session to NDF then the PT audio is early by about 15 frames. Any thoughts on the best way to remedy this and get them back in sync? I surprised PT didn't give me a warning that I was sending NDF code into a DF session. Hmmm.... Thanks, Jeff |

| Not easy to explain but you're not dead yet.
1. Did you use a common video sync reference for the Lynx AND the ProTools Sync I/O ? 2. Did you use Video sync then in your setup menu in PT ? 3. If so then you'll be able to slave this with an offset 4. your timebase is the same 29.9 This is good . It is your speed reference. The actual numbers may not look the same but once you've find the sync point and set the lynx offset all should be good. 5. You can then lock with an offset and then print the tape timecode back to a new track in ProTools and then use THAT track as your timecode Master source. 6. Use the new PT TC track as your Lynx Master and remove the offset. This is one way....There are others. |

Yes, the lynx and big Ben are referenced to 59.94hz BB. The sync I/o is being clocked via WC from the big ben. There is no reason to send BB vid to the sync I/o, right? I always thought that as long as the big Ben was ref'd to BB then I don't need to hook up vid BB to the sync I/o. I'll try striping a new tc track in pt and see what happens. Thanks Jeff |

You could lock the Studer with an offset while Recording from the PT-Sync-I/O TC out new correct code to track 23 of the tape machine. Leave the Studer in Sync not Repro mode for all of this. Then just use your track 23 for the code on only that project/song/reel. Good luck....You're still not dead yet! | |
