Thread Starter | PT10 disk cache allocation
Installing PT10 tonight. I have 8gb ram. I figure system needs 3gb, should I allocate 5 to disk cache or should I leave some extra ram for something else? Sent from my DROIDX using Gearslutz.com App

I've found that disk cache is best used on an "as-needed" basis with a smaller amount of RAM. Even with 3 of 8 GB free, the system will start to bog down quickly when video is involved. That said, I've done some work set up with the 5 GB cache, working with a huge number of tracks from a single FireWire drive and everything ran great (save for some minor sluggishness in redraws)

8GB here and I expand the cache as much as I need to. 1GB is fine for some sessions, up to a maximum of 4GB.

the main boost is having enough allocated for the timeline- beyond that it is less important.
