mem locations, dup tracks and show/hide

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no.. but I'd really like to hear what you do if you do anything similar.

I use memory locations that include show/hide and track heights etc to quickly see different spots in a project. I would say that is my primary navigation tool when edting and mixing.

Most of the time, instead of adding a new track when I need it, I'll dup and existing track in that category and just move on. However, this does not add the new track to my view markers.

I got into trouble because of this last week because I had to turn something around really fast and one of the extra FX tracks I duped was hidden and muted.

So what I'm doing now is.. when I add the track, I update that mem location. I wish there was a more automatic way to do this. Is there?

no other solution than to update the mem locs for views. Duplicating a track of the right food group is a good start to keep it within the right group (VCA and other links). I further use groups to keep track of what goes in what screen. I have the following groups going into the 4 main group division (a-z):
vDIA, vPFX, etc = VCA group with the referencing channels (including sources, but not aux returns with effects)
aDIA, aPFX, etc = group which you use to activate and de-activate the groups channels (including the aux returns) to free up dsp if necessary (I try to avoid it, but this is still a working habit from the PT days with less dsp/native power)
sDIA, sPFX, etc = group that keeps track of the tracks to show/hide in the relevant memory location

The memory locations keep the tracks/plug-ins to show, with all the right sizes etc.

I have my customgroup VCAs constantly on the lefthand side of the D-Control and apart from the mem locactions recalls I can spill them into the faders next to them.

Greetings,

Thierry

Hey Jesse, yup basically the same setup as you, and I am constantly making new markers and overwriting old ones in order to be able to use the same quick key numbers. I really hope they overhaul their marker system on the next major version. There is so much potential behind them and workflow, especially when multiple editors and engineers are working on the same project.

And don't tell me Nuendo has it figured out, cause I know they do! haha

On the contrary.

Nuendo does not have a show/hide feature in the edit screen.. only on the mixer. and the fact that the avid controllers don't recognize what is being shown or not shown in the mixer makes that pretty much useless too.

Is there a hotkey for updating the marker maybe?

Like if I'm on marker 4 (.4.)
Maybe I could hit CTRL (.4.) to update it.. something like that would be awesome

YES. I love this idea! Even easier for the coders would be a simple Apple+Click on the Marker itself. Either way, they should be "updating" (eh? ) them on the next version

or right click on the mem location in the Locations window.. then hit enter... overwrites much like gary's suggestion.
