Where can I buy used sound devices 702t online besides the GS used classified forum?

I've been racking my brain and doing a ton of research trying to find a used Sound Devices 702t recorder for film somewhere online. So far I haven't been successful in finding anywhere. Ideally, I'd love to find a place here in the Atlanta area that sold used gear like this. I've currently called/emailed prospective companies that might have some audio gear like this. Some dont even carry the 702t.

Anyway, I know this should probably be posted in a different section, but does anybody know where I can find a used 702t anywhere on the net? Anybody know of anybody that has one that might be willing to sell it? I'm super stoked about this recorder but simply can't afford the $2500 price tag that comes with it new. I'd be willing to purchase it for $1500-1700 used. Anybody?

any info would be awesome. Thanks!

I bought a 702 last year on eBay for $1600. I'd say check there frequently. One is bound to turn up.

As Charles said, try companies that rent production sound gear - they can happily write off & sell their equipment after a certain point so as to update it...

And at least with Sound Devices you know you can have it serviced

If timecode isn't a requirement, a new 702 goes for less than 1,900.

As has already been suggested, you have to patrol the consignment pages of the major location sound dealers, forums like JW Sound, and as a last resort, EBay (because there have been a number of scam sales on EBay involving Sound Devices recorders). Sound Devices keeps a database of who owns what serial number-if you find one for sale get the # and check with them before you send any money. No used SD recorder is ever for sale for long, they just don't come up that often, you have to get lucky. It took me several months of looking every day to find a 744T at a price that seemed fair.

most rental houses arent going to have them- they will have 744's and 788's.

So, I found a guy who'll sell me his 702t for $1700 which is a pretty damn good deal. Only problem is that he's in los angeles and I'm in atlanta. A question arises: what do you think would be the best way to exchange the money for the goods here? Paypal? check? I have no idea how I should handle this. All I know is I really want that 702t

If you want a guarantee on the transaction, you'd need to go through ebay. If not, you just have to send or wire him the money and hope.

jwsoundgroup.net has a for sale/want to buy section.

A faxed agreement of sale may help you feel better, but legally pursuing an out of state theft may be tough.

Perhaps you could research a reputable escrow website to hold the money for you? Maybe try the one eBay endorses, but I can't find the name of it right now.

Aston, paying via paypal on ebay is usually very safe.

But I would strongly suggest that you ask anyone selling to send you the unit's serial number and tell you the place of purchase first so you can verify that with Sound Devices.

1500 is a damn good price. That's $1000 off retail. That's what i was looking to buy for but i'm already committed. It'll sell. From what I've heard they go fast. Don't forget to post in the gear slutz for sale forum!

Did you ever go through with the Recorder Aston? By the way I'm located in the Atlanta area as well. If you don't mind what type of work are you doing? I do location sound and dabble a little in post sound.
